hi mods! just wondering when new accounts are created, how about giving them a welcome pack?

standard items can include links to:
1. how to B&S
2. how to upload pics
3. basics of photography
4. etc etc

just a suggestion!

Nice suggestion.
Hope to get more input.

Question : How do you want to administer the welcome pack?
Just for discussion. thanks.

How about in a form of welcome message, with links to various topics?

good suggestion from pokiemon

How about members should read and post there before allow to post in other subforums.
Then put all the welcome threads and newbies reporting threads there, this can help to clean up the newbies corners a little so that they can find answer there instead of going through pages of welcome message.

This is a good suggestion made by pokiemon.
Administer welcome pack through email.
When we sign up we included our email address, right? Like the way we get birthday greetings from CS.
Once they sign up, CS will automatically send the welcome pack to them. I don't know how complicated or confusing it will be to adjust the computer system.
Its like they can't post till they get an activation code. I'm sure some of us has seen such things when we apply for something online.
So together with the activation code, they'll get the welcome pack at the same time instructing them to go through it for a smoother browse of the forum.
As for what to be included in the welcome pack, more suggestions are needed and then fine tune the pack to make it easy to understand for the newbies.
It's not just another manual to read but a guide for the newbies so that there know where & how to use the forums more effectively

sorry guys, yes i meant "welcome email" or "welcome PM".

some of the typical questions that we newbies first asked and had to navigate our way around.

standard items can include links to:
1. basics of photography links. there are some very well written threads by the lao jiaos.
2. how to upload pics
3. how to use the search function
4. rules and regulations
5. please add on.................

but please bear in mind we dont want to put all the links in (limit to maybe 5 most impt links) and end up cluttering the welcome message. it should be the most basic tools to help navigate around cs.

Sounds feasible but not sure if our platform can handle it.
Hope to see more suggestions on the administrating part.

Currently the mods are engaged in some small projects. We will KIV this one but do pour in more suggestions.

can do it like some installation of programs,

must scroll to bottom then can next, then must click all the next before can register.

the trouble with that? i usually just scroll to the bottom without reading. ;)

Ya, its just like installing a program, then it ask you agree or don't agree. If agree, installation will con't, if don't agree, please quit program. Most of the time never read but agree ;p :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

lol... maybe can have CS test before can complete registration

like, give the link of an image, and test if they know how to post, for example. :bsmilie: then must enter correct answer , i.e
!

lol. and if full marks get discount vouchers from our kind sponsors on organised shoots.

on one hand it looks like good suggestion.
possible outcome is less asking repeatedly the frequently asked question.

on the other hand it looks like spoon feeding.
newbies becomes babies, lazy to search for answer.

there are numerous threads asking how to post images despite the fact that there are stickies on the subject......:sweat:

this is probably more efficient, although it may put off people from registering.. after all there are a lot of users who don't talk, only stalk.

Spoon feeding 1st time only to the stickies. In there they will be taught how to do a search, post a photo, start new post or post a reply.
But this is the most it can be done for them. There are bound to have those who don't read, read already still blur, then ask the same questions over n over again. I can feel it.................haha :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

or make it a game lor. for beginners to play ~~ and it gives them a certain amt of post count for just passing that game testing on their forum guidelines etc. how does it sound?
