Weird Experience at CP Marina

but 3:16 has really ridiculous prices. I was quoted prices over $50 over market rate.

Note that the prices they quote do not include GST.... unlike AP.....
Somemore like said earlier.... their customer service is much better.....

At least U won't have the situation of going into a shop and no one attending to U for 5 mins.... even though U look interested and really wish to buy something...... Somemore the shop that time only got 3 customers.... and we are talking about AP... not those small shops with little manpower.....

Think next time I go there to buy something... must purposely drop a stack of notes to show that I really got money and wanna spend..... but likely I wun go there again.....

zekai : but 3:16 has really ridiculous prices. I was quoted prices over $50 over market rate.

To me... $50 for better customer service is worth every penny.

John 3:16 is really not for bargain hunters, you know.

However, knowing the market price of an item can help you when you ask them to lower down the price little.

I buy all my stuff from that auntie with the gray hair. I guess because I have always bought stuff over the years, they never mistreat an old customer. But even as an old customer, you don't get the best prices from CP, I know this because I get that e-quote and then ask the auntie best price for me, and it's not the same!

I think Singaporeans need to step up a little. Especially when you are dealing with big companies, just get pissed and say on the spot how you feel, and that you demand to see the manager. They will piss in their pants right on the spot I guarantee you. Then the next time you come in, they know why the customer is always the boss. But you don't step up, they do as they please. Remember, this is for big companies where the workers are just... salary men. It's not the dress, it's the attitude.

do females get it worse?

I see the way the sales people treat me (CP, Fotoguide), and how they treat my male friend, and I get utterly disgusted.

I get quoted higher, my questions dismissed. I've been taking photos for abt 4 years now yet they treat me like I know nuts.

Why do we have to show off our knowledge, why do we have to show off our cash to be treated properly?

I guess, to the sale people, if one shown no money nor knowledge, it is like talking to a idiot, a lot of explaination to do, and at the end of the day, no money = no buy... then why waste time...

I guess this is reality... in the sales industry...

...which means that since they show such attitude, we should show them the attitude that Lush described above.

You know, I'm a sales executive working on the front line, and I know sometimes that sales people give really sucky service or attitude.

Let me put it this way (maybe OT, sorry!)...

I have served the general public (walk-in or business customers) for a number of years and I try to impart knowledge to customers rather than to push a sale. I want my customers, even if they don't buy anything, to walk away feeling that they have learnt something new or have experienced good customer service.

These are the customers who always come back. They drop namecards, give you their contact numbers (that's how I got to know quite a number of very pretty ladies - young or "mature"), sign a dealer contract and so on... and best of all, they become your friends. Tea, coffee (sorry no aclohol) and talk is great with my customers.

I love the job!

Then again, sometimes I get customers who barge in and give you that horrible look. And I say to myself, "Gosh, do I really have to serve him/her?" In the manner of professionalism, I will continue to serve the "horrible" customer.

Once the customer has walked away with what he/she wanted, I will feel bad and lousy. Sometimes I even curse underneath my breath and under the cash register. :bsmilie:

The potential of meeting a really bad customer (arrogant, ignorant, money-showing and so on...) sometimes make me ask myself why do I really want to continue to do front-line given my intellect and education. :embrass:

Why? Because... the potential of meeting a great customer (after the bad one) is usually very good!

One example (I know I know... this is getting REALLY OT)...

I was working at Causeway Point and encountered this man who wanted to exchange an USB gamepad with me. "Ok, let me test it first before I do an exchange." It worked fine on one computer and another and another.

The man yelled, "I don't know what you did to your computers, but it is sure fishy to me!!! Why? Because it doesn't work on mine!"

Oh gosh. I tried to explain that I did not do anything to my computers. He yelled and disturbed other customers (driving them away) and made a mess of the place. My colleague got really mad and called the security. The man left in a hurry.

My colleague then found out from our "friendly" competitors a few shops away, that his computer's mainboard was faulty and the USB ports were one of the damaged components.

I exploded. Who is the world created this man to come and disturb the peace and my shop? No less... he drove my customers away, yelling at them.

I was really upset and annoyed... for most part of the day I just fumed away.

In the evening, a very pretty lady walked in. My colleague and I recognised her because she bought a few photo printers from us. She was really friendly. For some reason, she noticed that I was not myself.

"What happened? Usually you're smiling or grinning and not scowling." She then gave me a devastating smile that charmed my anger away.

And THAT... is the kind of customer I love to serve. The kind that really makes a salesperson's day... not just buying expensive things... but treating the salesperson as a fellow human.

So sorry... so OT!!:embrass: :embrass:

I have EXACTLY the same experience. I thought after so much money spent there, and knowing the salesman well, they would give the repeat customers special price. Not so. I actually e-quote before I went down and thought I could dispense with the email, but to my surprise, the best price my usual salesman gave was still about 5% higher than e-quote. They would rather give a very good price to someone relatively unknown to them via e-quote than a regular customer that they know very well. Can't seem to follow their logic.

A bit OOT ... (this was about 12yrs ago)
I did that at Tangs Studio (when they were still at Scotts). I had lousy service from the saleswomen who just stood around and refused to entertain me because I was in a singlet and bermudas. I was so pissed, I asked to see the floor manager. The saleswoman gave me the shitty stare and said "OK LOR". When the manager came, I asked her if this was the treatement her staff were trained to give, and on top of that to a Tangs Studio cardholder? The saleswoman's face turned WHITE! She couldn't beleive that a young person like me could have the card. Anyway, to cut a long story short ... the next day, the manager phoned me to inform me that my order had arrived, I was treated like royality when I collected my mrechandise.

Sad .... the Service Industry here is indeed lacking, and it is these individuals who actually spoil/tarnish the image. At times like these, you as a consumer have to make yourself heard ... bo bian, otherwise just sit there and let people 'bully' you meh?

actually i had pretty good experience with CP. i am not a big spender, and i have only be to CP thrice recently (2 x PP, 1 x MS).

1st time @ PP, i was with my colleague looking at digicam during lunch hour. i have no idea who served me, but service was average.

2nd time @ PP, i was with my wife. i am in casual shirt and berms, looking at cam bags and some cheap QR shoes. maybe the sales ppl saw me rummaging thru the bags and can conclude i am a buyer. anyway 1 40+ sales served me and he was great! cheerful and obliging. again i hav no idea who he is... i spend like around 100?

3rd time @ MS, i was with my wife again. similar attire too. again, service was great (chatty lao beng-kinda guy, i dunno who he is). now looking at tripods and normal films. didn't spend much too. b4 coming to MS, i was actually at PP looking for the tripod at 2 other shops. service was downrite horrible.

given tat kinda of service i received compared to the other 2 shops at PP, i am pretty confident of CP's service. i dun buy big tickets item, neither do i specifically look for some sales person, nor dress well. but i am friendly to the staff and maybe bringing the wifey along helps :D

then again, i was pretty nasty to the staff at the 2 shops in PP. so maybe i got the same attitude back :bsmilie: i had to be more nasty in order to bargain the price to CP level. but if i am going to CP i can be relaxed and be assured of getting prices which are reasonable.

well, it's a long post but certainly food for tots...:light:

Well, my experience with CP PP was good, then bad a year later!!!

My photographer friend introduced me to this sales guy (chinese guy, 30's, English not too good, eyes blink often) at CP PP when I wanted and eventually bought a compact zoom camera early last year. He was nice to me then because I was "referred" and bought the camera on the spot.

But late last year, when I was looking out for a slim and compact digital camera, I decided to go back to him and ask him for "his recommendations". He only showed me a Casio Exilim S1 and didn't recommend others. When my eyes caught other models on display and asked him further about specs, weight, price, etc.. he told me that he didn't think I know what I was looking for and asked me to go home and surf the website to check all the camera types and specs, decide on what I want and come back!!!! He says he cannot recommend me if I didn't know what I want (uh...I did specifically told him I am looking for slim, compact, at least 2 megapixel, zoom digital camera)

I was quite taken aback by his answer and left ( I found out later that the Exilim S2 model will be out on the shelves soon). I walked to Funan and happened to walk by John 3:16. A young chinese guy was more friendly and recommended me a Fuji Finepix or a Minolta Dimage X. He took the time to show me the Dimage camera and why he thinks it will meet my needs. Thanks to his recommendation, I did buy the Dimage (the later model XI) but from AP instead because I was quoted $50 less. AP was crowded but allowed me to play with different cameras on my first 1st visit, answered my questions before I bought the camera on my 2nd visit.

Last week, as I was near to CP PP, I pop in to buy a minipod. 2 older men were very friendly and I almost told them that I didn't buy my camera from them because of his colleague.

What I learn :

- same place, different service standards (CP PP)
- pay more if you want service (John 3:16)
- good price, minimal service (AP)
- surf the net for latest models before being sold one which will be sent back to supplier the following week!

P/S: I am a lady wearing office attire.....

From my experience...

CP PP : tripod and medium format shops are very friendly and helpful, main shop stinks

CP Marina : inconsistent service

AP : Great service and better prices, but I find it a bit far to travel too

John 3:16 : Great service but at a premium, it's great still 'cos I work at Funan and they treat me pretty nice :bsmilie:

I'm a sucker for service.

It's like... going to kopitiam for $0.60 coffee, going to starbucks for $4.90 coffee, and going to Raffles Hotel for $9.90 coffee. :D

OnlyBasics

My experience at CP was pretty much similar - it was at the Marina branch. Essentially, the salesman just wanted me to buy the camera and go.

Vincent

I feel that being nice doesn't quite work. Not for all shops though - have to admit that Ruby and John is good. I only go these 2 places now.
