wedding album layouts

I understand that a lot of photographers actually do a AD (actual day) wedding album layout for their clients. I'm wondering about the following points:

1) how much time does it involve to do such a layout for your client, say 12x8 inch album
2) what program do you use (e.g. photoshop CS or photoshop elements)?
3) would it be interesting to see a software that can automate this whole process?

to answer your questions
1. for a 20 page album, maybe 1.5 hours straight without interruption
2. photoshop CS
3. There are already tons of software in the market which can do the design work for you. even apple iphoto software has a basic auto design function. i think the hard part is finding one that fits your vision.

Depends on the complexity of the layout, the time taken might range from 4 hours to 4 working days.

Adobe CS2 would be a good software to use. SOme ppl might use Adobe Illustrator to give a advert feel to it.
