@Ansel: I tried converting some of my shots to B&W, and the results were quite nice. If I do keep this lens, then it's time to put my stockpile of B&W film to good use.
@azzurri and diediealsomustdive: Thanks for the reminder. I remember seeing some AI'd copies on display at the shop, so I'll see if those are any better. One reason why I got the AIS was for the built-in hood. Other than the CA, this lens is really sharp even when wide open, and the CA is more or less gone at f/4 so chances are I'll still hang on to it.
I like the last one very much Ben, resonates well with my childhood mecha dreams
Where are you at now anyway?
kcchew said:So I went back to the shop to compare my 105mm f2.5 AIS with their AI copies. It turned out that mine had the most chromatic aberrations, so I swapped for a late-production AI. It still has aberrations wide open, but not as bad as before. It kinda feels weird using a lens older than me...
Some samples taken over the weekend:
I actually picked up a 35mm f1.4 AIS before the 105mm, but I didn't have that much time to use it until recently. Very nice lens that's sharp at wide apertures with an interesting glow effect wide open. Bokeh is pretty decent too.
