Hey hackie, did u try the AF nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D IF?
Is it good? do you know its original price? Me planning to buy that or the AF 24-85mm u got.
And did u buy the AF24-85 1st hand at $550?

The Nikkor AF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5D is around $600 new now. Thinking of selling mine. It's sharp, very little distortion, good range, but just not 'fast' enough for me.

Regards
CK

what kind of distortion did u experience?

CK, which fast-lens do you have in mind to replace yours?

Barrel/Pincushion, typical with zoom lenses. Minimal on the 28-105. Almost unnoticeable.

most expensive lens: Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AI, bought at $400.

also passively looking at the 28-70 zoom range of lens, namely

Tokina 28-80
Sigma 28-70
Sigma 24-70

John 3:16 keeps bugging me to buy the Sigma 24-70 whenever I pop by...

is the sigma 24-70 really that awesome?

i've tried my friend's tokina 28-80, man its really heavy!
pictures sharp, but i find its minimum focusing range not short enough.

so u planning to get what lens to replace this one mate?:gbounce:

oh and how do u find the manuel focusing for the Nikkor 28-105?
is it very hard to be precise, since the focus ring quite short?

Haven't tried any third party lens before. Hope to borrow one from friends to shoot a roll.

Thinking of replacing it with used Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 ATX Pro II or the 28-80 version if the price is right. I tried the Sigma 24-70, didn't like it.

The manual focussing is okay, but the focus throw is a bit short. I seldom manual focus with this lens anyway. AF works pretty well on it.

does the tokina atx pro2 have distortion?
as a third-party lens, is it relly better than Nikkors?

All zoom lenses have some amount of distortion. The primes are better in that aspect. It won't be better than the Nikkor AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF, but it will be a hell lot cheaper. Quality is supposed to be very good for its price, which is why I am considering it. :)

cking buy AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF lar. how much is it by the way?

Mine would be Nikon AF 70-300mm (can't remember f/ value), bought back home in Indonesia at a price of around Rp. 900,000 (~ S$180) ;)

Anyway, what can you expect from my collection of only 2 lenses (that one and the one that came together with my F55)? :)
