GUYS, i just wanna review this store as not many people know this store.

i just bought nikon d40 from parisilk as lot of people recommend this store to me via forum.

I went to many stores before and finally i bought mine in parisilk.

okay, here what i wanna say:

1) their price is cheap (cheaper than the one in mustafa) and competing with AP, CATHAY PHOTO, etc.

okay, so whats the problem??

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF ON THE ACCESSORIES LIKE BAG, FILTER, TRIPOD, ETC.

there are many stores in singapore that do this trick. they let you have the camera for a very reasonable price (NOT CHEAP), just reasonable. and will crush you hard when you buy accessories from them. BEWARE. PARISILK IS ONE OF THEM.

i went to the branch in holland village, the indian guy who served me offered nikon d40 for 753 sing dollars and okay its cool. but then he offered me the bag for 58 dollars (you can get it for less than 30 bucks somewhere else). and UV fILter 52mm tokina for 30 bucks (even harvey normal sold it for like 15 and other stores will sell it as cheap as 10).

i bought the filter as i really want to keep my camera clean and fortunately i skipped on the bag since i dont like the one he offered. I got super pissed to be fooled by these maggots. now, i am wondering if they sell me REFURBISHED CAMERA, but i dont think so since parisilk is authorized nikon dealer. but can anyone confirm on this???

IF i got the bag and tripod, i would have paid them close to 900 bucks.

i just wanna get this info out since i dont want anybody to experience the same thing.

these are the tips when you wanna shop camera in singapore:
1) RESEARCH THE PRICE. i know you want the camera so bad, but you can still get it tomorrow. research the price first, COMPARE the price among stores.

2) go to trustworthy and reliable store like authorized dealer of a particular brand. i think its more safe that way.

3) NEVER go to simlim square. a guy from store in the 1st floor almost sold me refurbished item for a super low price. basically, SLS is the last place you wanna visit. there is nothing but bunch of dishonest guys.

some people may told you to ALAN PHOTO, but i cant tell you about them since i havent dealt with them.

4) its OKAY to pay more for good service and security in singapore. I would recommend go to mustafa. i know they dont offer you the best price but you can rest assured that they wont sell you grey set or rip you off on the accessories or lure you into buying craps that you dont even need.

Also, the price is fixed so you wont have to bargain (it saves your time).

there is another store called john 3:16, and lot of people tell me that they are very reliable and give you an impeccable service. i went there but unfortunately they dont have d40. so i wont make any further comment about john 3:16.

However, if it was true that they can give me a good service, I would buy lens one day from them.
i wouldnt mind pay extra money for good service and security which i find very hard to get in singapore.

I hope the info that i shared today can be useful to everyone of you guys.

best advice here.

actually, just change it to "DO YOUR HOMEWORK" and it will be even better :bsmilie:

Just buy what you need, and forget the rest of the stuffs that they are offering.

Errr... I dunno... The D40, an obsolete and discontinued model for 750 SGD? I'd not have paid that much for it.

I still don't quite comprehend why ppl in CS STILL willingly serve their heads on the chopping board at Sim Lim square camera shops (exclusion of OP and AP), when it is VERY obvious why most regular CSers get their stuff from well-known shops like Cathay, MS, TK... why ar?

you should have just went to ms colours instead.

The main thing is to do your research on the pricing. Impulse buying - we almost always end up paying more.

Parisilk is not a Sim Lim shop.

Refurbished or new - check with Nikon? They should have records.

Sorry to hear about your experience. That's why research is very important. Did they press you to buy the accessories, and turn nasty or refuse to sell you camera if you don't? If they didn't, then I'd say they're still OK. After all, they're not in it for charity but to make money. The true scums will sell you the accessories that came with your camera.

I AGRee. I shouldnt paid that much. 690 would be a decent price for this model.

but THIS IS THE CHEAPEST PRICE IN SINGAPORE FOR NOW. i compared to many places. and 750 is the lowest.

i dont wanna get used one and second of all, i dont need to upgrade to d60 (which is 200 more expensive). I am not an advanced photographer and just started to learn. so i want basic camera.

thats pretty much my reasoning for getting D40. yeah its old camera, but i think its a great camera. i will use it soon : )

really??? you think that i can check this with nikon??? are you sure?? because i have the serial number and everything. the serial number on the lens match the one in warranty card so i thought it should be new. am i missing something here??

they wouldnt have got me actually but my friend (who seems not familiar with uv filter told me told me that the price of filter is like 25-30) so i agreed to pay parisilk for a filter and then later on i checked the price. I soon realized that i ve been ripped off. i should have been more patient.

no, they didnt push me. but they jack up the price like crazy on accessories. i just dont think its right eventhough i know they wanna make money.

I have bought virtually all my camera gear from Parisilk and have always got a better price than AP, CP or MS. Not sure why this happened to you but I am sure if you go in and ask for Kevin, you can talk this through with him. He is a very reasonable chap and I am sure he will be more than happy to talk about your experience with you.

its too late now. i dont get the receipt for the filter.

what happened was i left the store already and decided to come back to get filter. since it was small value transaction and i was in rush, i just piad them and left. 1 day after that, i know that i have been fooled.

based on your experience, DOES PARISILK SELL REFURBISHED ITEM?? I FEEL UNEASY AND UNSECURE NOW
. DO THEY REALLY GIVE YOU A BRAND NEW ITEM?? my camera seems new, but who knowS?? ITS HARD for me to trust them after what they ddid to me.

I'm not sure how Nikon works here - can you register your camera with them online? If so, there will be a record if the camera is already registered with them.

And it also depends on the definition of refurbished in Singapore. If it is a factory refurbished item (i.e. returned to Nikon, they checked it, repaired if necessary, and returned it for sale), Nikon will know. How Singapore's consumer laws treat refurbished products I'm not sure - in the U.S. it is illegal to sell refurbished as new without informing consumers.

But if a customer returned the camera to the store, and the store sells it as new, and the customer did not register the product, the only way you can tell is from subtle signs that the camera has been used (e.g. image counter, shutter actuation if available - not sure about the D40, some Nikon models has shutter actuation in the EXIF). Also consider that it is very likely that the camera has been tested a few times by customers visited the store, checked out the camera and decided not to buy.

I'd advise that if the camera works well and there's no signs of previous heavy use, and that Nikon honors the full warranty, just to chalk it up to a relatively inexpensive learning experience, and go out and enjoy shooting.

Sounds like they did not pressure you to buy the filter before they would sell the camera to you. Is that correct? If that's the case, the only thing that happened is that they charged you $15 too much for a filter. You made a bad decision, they sell accessories at a high price, none of this warrants them being called maggots.

It's not a pleasant experience, and I'd hate it if it happens to me. But I suggest just get on with life and enjoy your camera.

GUYS, i just wanna review Mustafa as not many people know this store ;)

I went there with the intent to get a FX36 Panasonic. The Indian guy who served me, offered a very good price. Okay cool, price is good. But he started to offer me lens cleaning tissues at 5 bucks(you can get from elsewhere from 3 to 3.50. I know that MS Color is 3.50 but I still get it from Mustafa since its cheap cheap $5) and he offered me a tripod for $29 when I know elsewhere I could get $15! I decided just to buy the lens cleaning tissues since I wanted to keep my lens nice and clean. As I walked down the aisle, the Pantene promoter came to me recommending the Pantene shampoo for $7.85. Since it is not too expensive, I decided to go for a bottle. After the purchase, I called my gf and she told me that its selling for $6.50 only in NTUC! The more I think about it, the more I am pissed! What a rippp-off!

I also bought the AA batteries at Mustafa near the cashier there! They are evil, placing them right beside the cashier. Since its only 2.50, I thought its cheap and decided to buy a couple of packs. I vaguely remember the ABC Bargain store selling only 1.50 but I am not sure. Aiyah, nevermind I told myself at only $2.50 per pack. After I paid for my stuff, I went to sip kopi opposite Mustafa. The more I think, the more I am pissed! What a rippp-off! How could they sell me $1.50 batteries for $2.50! How could they place the batteries beside the cashier to entice me! What a RIPPP-OFF!

i just wanna get this info out since i dont want anybody to experience the same thing ;) In selecting a store, you must find one that is CHEAP and GOOD in every item. If you go to the kopi tiam, they sell you the kopi-O at $0.50 but if they sell the tissue papers at $0.50, this is a rippp off. Remember don't drink kopi there again. Patronize a kopi tiam that serves kopi-O for 50 cents and sells tissue papers at 20 cents please. Anything more is a ripppp-off!

Before I forget, I went to Peninsular and this DISHONEST guy almost ripped me off by wanting to sell me a refurbished item for a super low price! Refurbished item = super low price. Jeezz... how could they do that! It should be New Item = Super low price! The more I think, the more I am pissed! What a rippp-off!

Never again, I will patronize them!

Let this be a warning to all ;)

Your warning on Parisilk's expensive accessories is fair enough, I'm sure many of us would appreciate the info.

However, I don't think it's fair for you to suggest that they are out to con people, or to call them maggots. They were upfront with you about the prices of all the items. You made the decision to buy.

I also do not understand your basis for suspecting that the camera is a refurbed set. Just because you paid above-market price for the filter?

Your points in (3) and (4) is also over-generalisation. There are good deals in SLS if you know where to find them. You can also end up buying things you don't need in the so-called "reputable" shops.

At the end of the day, caveat emptor. Or else, "the fool and his money are soon parted". Forgive me for being jaded, but stop blaming shops and start taking more responsibility as a consumer for your own purchasing decisions!

camerax, good that you got a good price for your camera. But honestly, nobody (least of all the Parissilk staff) are forcing or pressuring you to buy any of the accessories, filters, etc.

They offered you a price for the items and you agreed to pay for it and now you're bitching here on the forum that you got ripped off??? And now you're making an allegation that they are selling refurbished item???

OK you paid a little more but do you need to be a sour grape over the matter? Were you cheated? No, right? Can't you admit you made a mistake by not doing your research. Take it as a learning experience and move on.

Bro, you can always try John 3:16. I had went there a few times asking a lot of questions but didn't buy anything from them. Their good service did not change unlike a lot of shop when you ask a lot without buying their face like  or :complain:.
In service line, john 3:16 service is what i call professionalism.

Dude you're a noob. Quit talking about how you got ripped off your pennies and tissue papers I believe the INTENT of the thread here is with regards to his unfortunate occurance with the shop.
