That had been a question that I been thinking also. So what is suitable humidity value should the DSLR and lens be in? does flash need to be in dry cab also?

>85% humidity, inside cupboard (stale air) and not used for 3 months. Talking from personal experience when I was using film SLR. Have to examine using magnifying glass. If 9 to 12 months, then naked eyes can see liao. If you air it regularly, then it takes longer for fungus to grow.
How come none of my PnS cameras have any fungus growth? They have been kept inside my closet (which I am SURE has fungus on the walls) on and off for at least 8 years. Of course I use them sometimes, but they are in the cabinet maybe 80% of the time!
Fungus on PnS is not so obvious and harder to grow (I think) as the lens is relatively small. I have a Coolpix 2100 which I had not put inside a dry cabinet for 8 years and I still did not notice any fungus.
We all know dry cabinet is cheap and useful and i dont mind getting 1..but its the thought of wasting electricity daily just to keep it dry where a normal tupperware or dry box can do the job reasonably.
I wonder is it energy consuming? Does it uses up large electricity?
