D200 + 18-200DX + 17-35mm + 10.5 fisheye
the above used to me my combi whenever I travel.
my main subject is usually landscape.

Now that my D200 & 18-200 DX lens had died on me,
I've upgraded to a full frame camera.

What will you suggest for a walk around replacement?

Tks!

PS; I only want a Nikon Lens, Pls don't suggest a thirty party lens. It's a personal preference. cheers!

Whats your most used focal lengths when you're using your past gears?
now..buy back the same. (but FF lens instead).

24-70
24-120
28-300

The equivalent of 18-200 DX is 28-300 FX; and that of 10.5 FE is 16 FE. The 17-35mm f/2.8 will stay the same as it is FX, but will be much wider but will not cover standard lens 50mm in FX.

If you go for 24-70 the range is too short, probably. 24-120 is likely ok, but still way short of your old range.

Looks like your best bet is 28-300, keep 17-35, add 50/1.8 and 16mm f/2.8 FE. That way you will have everything you had and wider (17-28mm FX), and faster 50mm (f/1.8 vs f/2.8)

There are several lens depending on budget and your demand on IQ

A list as follows (Local Nikon warranty prices as estimated/enquired recently in brackets):
1) 24-70mm f/2.8G (SGD 2,650)
2) 16-35mm f/4G VR (SGD1,800)
3) 24-85mm f/3.5-5.6G
4) 17-35mm f/2.8D
5) 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VR (SGD 1,270 - 1,310)
6) 24-120mm f/4G VR (SGD 1,550-1,600)

Personally, if I was to buy a walk around lens, I go for the 16-35mm f/4G VR and bring along a 50mm f/1.8G.

Strangely, I walk around on my travels with a 24mm f/1.4G attached to a D800. Recently, wanted to acquire a 35mm prime in the form of the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG but dropped the idea and chose to set D800 to DX and use the 24mm f/1.4G as a make do 35mm FoV as required.

Hi travelsnapper, i hv been a nikon user for over 30+ yrs and have been using FX bodies (D3S, D700). For a walkabout lens that is suitable for most travel situations, i'd recommend either the nikkor afs 24-85mm/f3.5-4.5 VR or 24-120 VR. this is the lens i hv on 90% of the time is captures most of the images during my trips. I bring along a afd 20mm/f2.8 for those times i need to go wider. I also hv in my bag the afs70-200/f2.8 VRII is i need to zoom in.

The good noise control of the FX sensors allow these lenses to capture really good images.

For those days when i shoot more leisurely, i use the nikkor ais 50mm/f1.2 and ais 28mm/f2.8 primes.

Trust the above is helpful to you. Fred

I use the old ais lens. All primes. All light weight. All sharp. All 52 mm and I only bring 1 set if filters.

Only set back is manual focus and u need to manually set which lens it is for the exif files to be correct (it still shoots and expose correctly even if u input the wrong lens data).

I use 1) 24 mm f2.8 ais 2) 50 mm f1.8 pancake ais

mostly i use my 16-35 f4

but now thinking of changing to 28mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8
mostly depends if i need ultra wide or not

Looking at your usage, you're talking travelling.

AF-S 17-35 f/2.8D
AF-S 24-120VR f/4G
16mm FE.

Hey guys,

Thank you so much for yr input, will try out a few of yr suggestions via friends / rental before getting "the final" lens !

Thanks again!
