yes! prime lens actually teach u to be more hardworking cos u had to use different angles sometimes even prone down to get the shot u want.

i think zoom lens somehow make u lazy cos u just move left and right, up and down, zoom in zoom out, dun even need to walk closer or further away from the subject, hence u might lose some angles as a result.

In terms of angle lost, i feel primes lose more angle. Their fov is fixed but for zooms u hav a range.

For some, it makes them lazy, but it s not lazy carrying a larger n heavier lens.

For some then do not wanna walk front n back, but there r ppl who still set the zoom lenght n then move front n back to frame. It s about how much u wanna include in the photo.

I personally use a prime lens for walkabout but sometimes i do wish i brought my zoom.

what i mean by angle lost was. sometimes using a zoom, u can simply zoom in and out standing where u are. u dun move much.

but using a prime, u had to walk up closer if u want to zoom and if u want to go further, u had to stand further back.

if no time constraint, using primes u tend to be more adventurous to try every possible angles (unless u are lazy).

if got time constraint, then its true, u lose out in angles cos u dun have so much time to move ard.

to summarise:

prime - u need to move about alot, left right, up down, forward backward
zoom - u dun really need to move alot except left right, up down, cos zoom in and zoom out is already taken care of by your lens.

35L for me most of the time.

Sometimes I carry my Nikon 55mm f1.2 (manual) <- Cheap fast and good.

Currently using 50mm f1.4 for walkabouts on ff. It a great lens. But 35mm is more ideal n i would reccomend the 35L to the ts too. Simply cos u can get more in the pics. Sometimes u can always get more then crop ur pics since ff like 1ds3 n 5d2 have such great sensors.

For walkabout combo, 5dmk2 + 35L... I noe many ppl alr recommend but i further recommend...

But if u dun mind e weight of course 1dsmk3 + 24-70. Cos sometimes when u walkabout the photographic moments is only seconds n the zoom n fast AF of the 1ds3 can make a diff between gettin the shot or getting a blank.

I like the 28f1.8 in tight situations. Its sharp and bright too! Maybe I should bring my 28 to the shop and compare it with the 35. Then I'll know for sure. :think:
