Why should the warranty be extended in this way ? I thought the proof of purchase is always needed. If can extend like that, why not wait for 1 year then send in instead of 3/4 month.. :dunno:

the lower your integrity, the longer you wait.

I was advised by MS Color to do this. :)
Said its common practice.
After all , you do not need your receipt when you claim warranty or servicing.

hmmm ....
Thats why you see many people claim warranty unfilled when they sell 2nd hand items.... in fact it may be months old.

they do.... now the companies for example olympus require you to show your receipt.... or proof of purchase.... but i also had a unfilled reciept.... so unlimited warrenty until i fill it in.... :)

i do think they need to see the receipt to verify the warrantly for Canon.

I believe proof of purchase is required. But again, don't we all hope that our equipment never visit the service center?
:D

ANy one send it their camera to canon and was required to show receipt and warranty card together ? :)

Yes, a few months back.

if you think you can get away with not producing the receipt at canon, you must think that the people at Canon are (1) stupid (2) don't surf clubsnap ;)

No.. i only showed the warranty i told them i no reciept coz it was a gift..

I believe sometimes it has to do with the product cycle.

For example, if you bring a G5 to Canon, they probably won't bother to check your receipt. However, if you bring in a G2 with a warranty that's still valid, they probably ask you to show the receipt. Afterall, it is stated in the fine prints on your warranty that proof of purschase is required.

The gift buyer can ask for a gift receipt with the date of purchase but no price stated. Common practice in the US. If as a result of such threads more people try their luck and send in 2 yr old equipment for servicing, I'm sure Canon/Nikon etc will start clamping down....

If you can't get canon to service it, I can always help you to throw away the system.

Well, even if you have a lot of integrity, i think it would be wise to wait at least 1 week before filling it in.

Reason is that if the item is faulty or unsatisfactory, you can get a one to one exchange. If the warranty if filled, they may insist on sending it in for service, even if it's one day old.

If the warranty if not filled, if you change your mind, it's also easier to change for another item.
