Hi,

MINDS MYG is having their annual Sports Day this Saturday at Harbourfront area, and they would like to have some photographers to help them capture moments throughout the day.

Date: 02/07/11 (Sat)
Time: 2.30pm to 9.30pm
Venue: Harbourfront Area
People: 400+

This is purely a volunteering event. Interested photographers who wish to take this opportunity to practise can join, but do please take note that because of the special audience, the photos taken cannot be use freely unless for specific or personal reason (Portfolio etc..)

Thanks!

The photographers are not paid and yet cannot use the photos for personal and portfolio purposes

Erm...can be use as portfolio and some competition, but cannot publicise the photos freely

if you know what is minds about, you will understand why photograhes are not allowedto publish freely.

Agreed, it's more towards doing a good deed n creating memories in pictures for e kids.
Dun think it would be nice to use it as portfolio or publish it considering it's sensitivity.
Might occur e wrath of parents or public. =x

Just in case you all dont know... all photos are the rights of the photographer!

if you cant use the photos freely... after especially not a paid job dont need to post ad here... this by right for paid services!

read what the mods say!

Sorry no offence, but since mod didn't delete my thread, it means it's ok to post this here.

Aniwae...not everyone shoots for money. I believe there's people out there who shoots for passion and want to do their part for charity as well in whatever ways they could.

Thanks a lot to all those who had PM me! =D

for this event is an exceptional case, yes, the photographers do own the right of the photographs, but because of the subjects you are about to shoot, will be consider a minor thought out their whole life, so you need to understand why can't the photos be published freely without any consideration.

I have shots a Special Olympic as a volunteer photographer a few years back, these are some of the photographs which I feel able to express the spirit of the event but not focusing on the participants

Thanks Mod! =)

Thanks to those who have the thoughts to help out but couldn't make it though as well! =D

I agreed with redmonsoon.
Hope the entire ablum is not taken like this.

I take photos for VWO (voluntary welfare organization) also, usually the pics showing faces are not advisable to put on public domain without the permission of the family. Some may not like having photos of their family members displayed for public to see. :)

Just to clarify, those photos I took for the Special Olympic a few years back, most of them are normal event coverage photos, record shots, prize give/receiving shots, all faces are clearly visible, identifiable.
as most of their parents are not very comfortable to let the photos of their child to be publish, I just simply respect their request, only showing some photos which faces the participants are not visible or identifiable.

I'm not in a position to judge their parents, but just respect their wishes, and hope this will benefit everyone.

btw, and the same kind of request will apply on any events are involve mental patients or ex-convicts, their photos are not allow to publish freely.

We have to look at this and other similar case scenarios from more than one point of view... my thoughts...

1. Volunteering is mostly goodwill. No one is forcing you to take on this job.
2. Volunteering can provide publicity and build a good corporate image especially for established photographers. That social worker you meet could be engaged and has yet to find a photographer.
3. Some welfare groups require photographers but do not respect PGs or understand the difficulties and challenges we face during photography, have a discussion with the organisers and volunteer only if you are comfortable. Back to point 1 statement 2.
4. Organisations which require photography on a regular basis should understand the limitation of searching for photographers through forums & internet. There will be black sheep.
5. Organisations which wish to secure regular photographers should offer token monetary incentives for transport/food. There may be true volunteers who prefer to not receive these incentives.
6. Organisations which wish to attract volunteer PGs should present a good working experience for PGs. Etc. Free volunteer polos/t-shirts/lanyards, provide clear information/schedule/itinerary. (Surprising these tend to be often ignored)

This is a very simple post request by TS.
Taking into consideration that TS have made his request and expectations super clear and with the clarification of our moderator, we just only need to decide if we want to volunteer or not. If you decide to take up the offer, just respect the request and be sensitive. If you wanna complaint, then don't volunteer your
service, its just that simple.

Hi Joseph,
I'm Felix, the organiser for MINDS MYG Sports Day 2011.
I would like to give my sincere thanks to u for starting this thread...
A simple act of yours, had made a difference to our beneficiaries and event!

Due to the time constraint, I wasn't able to contact all the interested volunteer photographers.
Many thanks to the photographers who came to help us!
Didn't know ClubSNAP existed until I met the Samaritans of ClubSNAP's community.
I'm deeply touched and impressed by ClubSNAP!
