I think they can easily get a volunteer photographer from SMU. I believe there are many of them.

I a newbie..kenna bad experience sign up as a "volunteer". End up too many "volunteers" so they get to pick n choose and end up what??!! All the so call 'lousy' assignments is open to all and those more exclusive or interesting ones do not get to take. And there is no transport allowance and no food either!

It is from a local Uni.

same experience i had!! free labour is just a big NO NO!

Just found the full details on the website.

Date: 2nd September 2006
Time: 8am – 6pm
Venue: Conference Hall, School of Accounting block, Singapore Management University
81 Victoria Street, Singapore 188065

Thats way longer then I thought, your first post makes it sound like 6-8pm because of the typo.

Should have checked the website first instead of trying to figure out what you meant. I'm pulling back my offer! For 14 hours work, free is really not good enough. And for that amount of time good luck finding a free one!

If you really need one, pm me, im sure we can work something out!
basket, i'm 10 days late!!

i would've worked for free and survive on grass and rainwater!!!
PM me!!!

i love my style! :bsmilie:

Its really sad nowsaday photographers here in CS are so "money oriented" even went it comes to non-profit organisation. I am a volunteer photographer for a non-profit organisation. I shot a couple of my weddings for free, a big taboo in CS. But now I got regular wedding assignment that makes me some nice pocket money. Sometimes we have to look beyond money, while its true there are ppl who comes to the forum seeking unpaid photography services even when they can well afford but there also exists ppl who really need some free help. II understand some are offended by the people asking for free photography but I really don't see the need to post some sarcastic remarks. BTW I am not associate with the original thread poster. I find this phase very meaning when I was first starting out in paid photography (I am by no means a successful photographer BTW), "Give and you shall receive"

I understand about volunteer work..and i've shoot for old folks home/orphanage on volunteer basis..its not about helping or not, its just a wrong way of asking..

it maybe pocket money to u but that's different altogether from professionals who rely on such business to stay alive and to pay their bills. i'm sure a whole host of events and PR photographers will agree with me.

is it really non-profit? no one knows. perhaps it is. maybe its not. perhaps it might do a whole wealth of good if the TS do actually state wat charity organisation it is representing.

anyway, its all in the past. i bet they've got their man who do the job for them.

CS do haf alot of intelligent ppl and some guilable ones. i think most of us here are able to judge for themselves if anyone, or anything for that matter, is worth a helping hand.

i'm sure most would willingly shoot/work for free if an 'honourable' charity organisation does indeed approaches the forum for help.

it does not help, however, ever since the NKF incident, most Singaporeans stay away from 'charitable' works or organisations for that matter.

do not be quick to dismiss CSers as a bunch of cold-hearted and calculating photography-mad community.

What does Volunteer means?

does shooting a few events for free means you are volunteering your service?

I agree with you that some posts here are merely sarcastic remarks, but I have to agree with Cheesecake more that many of the CSers are able to judge who is worth a helping hand for many requests posted in CS.

Event over...

no pt saying anything more...
