Hello has anyone dealed with Vision 1 Pte Ltd (the store beside Sim Lim, ground level of Burlington Square)? I couldn't find any review on them.

They quoted me the lowest for Nikon D3100, at $780, where as the others are $834-$859. I'm not sure what did I missed, it includes 8gb card and warranty. Does anyone have a good recommendation for anywhere else?

Thanks! :D

Make sure the price is GST included and check if it is not grey set and all accessories are included before you pay.

Ah! I think may be it's the GST.

Other than the above what should a beginner double check before paying? O: Thanks for the reminder! :D

Just to add to this thread about Vision 1. Visited it the past weekend when passing by the area, so casually popped in to check out prices for an entry level compact camera.

I enquired about a new model I'm interested in that was released a few months ago this year. The salesman recognized the model I was referring to but said his shop didn't carry it. However, he recommended me an older model released last year in the same series and price range by the same manufacturer, which he happened to carry. I asked him if he has a display set somewhere where I can probably examine the physical product first without him opening up a brand new box and thus committing to buy. He said he could show it to me. The camera was not a model displayed on the shelf to customers, and he went to retrieve it from his wooden cabinet below his glass display counter.

He fished it out from his lower cabinet 2 metres away and returned quickly. From my research, I know the camera's official RRP is about S$250. But being an old model released last year and about to be obsolete soon, I do see it being sold at $190 - $210 at places probably to clear stock, already 20% off the official RRP by its manufacturer. But the sales man verbally quoted me $140 and then punched the number in his calculator. I didn't ask if GST was already included, as pricing wise it sounded too good to be true.

I noticed that the box he brought over was already unsealed with the seal cut cleanly by a razor or cutter previously. He opened up the box. Either I'm paranoid or suspicious, I glanced quickly at the camera to catch any fingerprints on the LCD display as the sale man unbox the package -- a sign of used product -- but didn't find any. He handed over the camera to me and I took a 10 seconds casual inspection at the physical condition and felt the weight without bothering to put the battery in and switch it on. Then I asked what other colours he was carrying for this camera since I'm more interested in a black camera, apart from the silver one he showed me, he said this is the only one (and I am guessing it is also his only set left in his cabinet.).

To be honest, I didn't find anything physically wrong with the camera based on my casual visual inspection of the outer casing. Just that I was uncomfortable with a price that was too good to be true, and the fact that the manufacturer's seal was broken on the box. The cheap price can simply be clearing stock for the last set (legitimate), a gray set with no local warranty (fair enough if made known to customer) or worst a returned second hand set by a dissatisfied customer. I would not want to speculate more without evidence. But so far, no positive or negative review on this shop, but just to share my personal experience.

In any case, I didn't want to take up too much of the saleman's time if I wasn't committed to buying. I thanked him for his time, told him I would consider the offer and left the shop.

Went to Vision 1 today and check out the Canon Lens kit price 18-135mm. He quote me 385 without box and without GST. He says need to add GST to 385. Can it be trusted? The "Owner" says they do export to India and buy in bulk. Thats why got this price. Please advice...

Whatever shop it is, always be careful to check everything. Bring your camera body to test with the lens

It's always fishy if some shop quotes excluding GST. The prices quoted to consumers in SG must include GST. Whether a person or company can get a GST refund is a different story and should not matter here at all. It's like luring customers and then secretly marking up 7% with the 'GST excuse'.

According to IRAS:
---> IRAS: Displaying prices

I will extract some of the important parts here if you are lazy to read or click it:

"GST registered business must show GST-inclusive prices on all price displays (e.g. price tags, price lists, advertisements, publicity brochures, website). Prices that are quoted, whether written or verbal, must also be GST-inclusive. Failure to do so is an offence and offenders may be fined for up to $5000."

So if a shop quote you, whether displaying the price or told you the price with his mouth, it should include GST. Only restaurant (F&B industries) can charge you GST later when making payment.

Sorry for off-topic, but was reading about you guys talking about GST and thought of sharing this article from IRAS. If one day a shop want to add GST when you want to make payment, show them the link above.
