If the final output format for your wedding video is SD DVD, and your videographer has a good SD camera, AND he is experienced at shooting good video, the SD camera may well give better results. An HV30 with lights can also give you great SD pictures, but it does need a bit of setting up to get the best results, and very often at a wedding you just don't have time for that. That's why cams like VX2100 and PD170 are very popular with wedding guys, they can always get the shot with minimum setup hassle.

If the final output is HD, then of course you should try to get someone who can shoot (and edit) HD. Your SD videographer may not have an HD-capable editing system so that is also something to think about.

Yup, but the same broadcast on normal SD TVs are okay for watching right?

I'm using a digital decoder btw, but not on HD-5. Digital decoder in my opinion shows clearer picture than the old analogue boxes, on SD.

I've also seen poor quality of CH5/CH8 (using SCV analogue) on HD-Ready LCDs. SCV recommends upgrade to digital decoders for better results. (more $$$)

Hi all,

i am currently using a panasonic standard definition video cam with 3CCD and leica lens for home video purposes. ie kids. the medium of storage is std def dv tapes. i archieve them using a LG video recorder and burn them on dvds.

i am thinking of getting a high definition video cam and a playstation 3 onli if i can get full HD resolution from dvds. (otherwise, must as well stick to current system) (blue ray disc are way too expensive)

i urderstand that from the discussion here that this is not possible. And that the only way to do so is to purchase a blue ray burner and burn on blue ray disc. Can confirm this point again? :embrass:

i don understand why this is the case when both blue ray disc and dvd are just medium of storage, where one is 25GB and the other is 4.7GB. i mean why cant a dvd take in full HD video at maybe 20 mins per dvd? :embrass:

Yes you can burn HD content on a normal DVD and play it back on a BluRay player like PS3. You won't be able to get as high quality as with B-R discs because the DVD media data rate isn't as high, but many people who've done this are happy with the results.

It also depends if you're talking about burning as DVD-video or DVD-Data

If its dvd-data you can burn and it will be same as what jaggersing mentioned. DVD-Video then no lor... simple as that..

Thank you, guys!

i think i will give HD stuff a miss for now and continue using STD definition stuff :)

Want to clarify a point here: if you burn m2t files directly to a normal DVD and burn as a data DVD, PS3 will play it in HD, without loss of detail. So you can get HD quality from a normal DVD when play on a PS3. Each normal DVD can store about 20 minutes of HD content.

Yes there is no loss of detail. But if the date rate is too high for DVD the playback will not be smooth.

I'm referring to direct transfer from m2t to DVD, so not a problem when play from a PS3. In fact it is so much easier to play from a PS3 with the remote.

Actually you can make it to full HD and encode it with H.264 or VC-1 and then use TS or MKV container mah, but you need HD player to play it, like the popcorn hour A-100.
