Video footage stabilisation.

Hi there. Recently got myself a Gopro and shot tonnes of videos with it. Unfortunately, due to my inexperience, alot of them turned out 'shaky'.

Are there any apps out there other than After Effects, that can help stabilise my videos in post production? Am just a hobbyist so cheap n good would be best. Otherwise, would AE be THE app?

Any suggestions or advice will be very much appreciated. Cheers

I bought an LCD back. Does wonders to help frame the pic.

Hi there! Thanks for tip. So far, framing is ok. Super view on the 3+ captures everything so long as I am pointing the cam in that general direction. :-D

Would you recommend a steadicam? Came across loads of DIY videos while searching for a solution to my problem. Attempting to build one myself but not sure how much it would help in my case.

If you describe what your 'case' is, the other GoPro users may be able to tell you if it'll be helpful :)

I mounted my Gopro on a pole and tried taking videos of my 6y.o daughter scootering. I basically ran after after her from behind and the side with the cam held at waist level. I run very light footedly (like a ninja wahaha), consciously trying not to shake the cam too much. The result was still nausea inducing..... :(

Also tried shooting while walking at a leisurely pace diagonally behind my wife along a beach. Camera was again placed on a pole and held at waist level. Footage was jerking up n down abit.

Something wrong with my technique? Or do i need some sort of stabiliser?

Watched too many videos by Devin Supertramp i guess. Hehe...

Btw, cam setting was at 50fps, 720p, Superview mode.

A stabiliser like the Steadicam Curve will definitely help.
An ND filter can also cut down the shutter speed under bright sunlight to eliminate reduce rolling shutter. You can buy a piece of Lee ND gel from cathay and cut it to fit the window of the gopro case.

kohbro>>> You need a stabilizer. :)

Yeaah uu might wanna use a stabiliser like flycam or a tamron lens with vibration control or you can do it in post with certain plugins such as prodad mercalli but it requires cropping. For maximum results, You can use all three ;D

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

Looks like i need to get myself a stabiliser first. That leaves me with 1 question....does price matter or can a properly DIYed one produce decent results too?

I am using Malaysian made. Pro-Motion. And yes, there is a huge difference between Pro-Motion and a Glide Cam. In terms of quality, price and ease of handling.

The good thing about Glidecam is its quality and ease of usage and also handling. Especially when you want to fine tune the position. It has adjusting knobs.

The only good thing about Pro-motion is the price. Its limitations, you got to live with it.

Thanks all for the input. Just got myself a Flycam Nano. Looks abit of an overkill when paired with the Gopro but seems to work really well!

Next up will be mounting my 6D+17-40 on. Hope the weight wont break my arm!
