Hey there fellow snappers. It's your friendly neighborhood video guy. Just wondering, anyone here building a pc for video editing in the year 2013? Got any recomendations for hardware items? Sim Lim seems geared towards gaming hardware and I'm trying to not resort to shipping my hardware. If you got any feedback, please leave them here, or leave a comment on my blog: http://fadlywychowvski.blogspot.sg/2013/10/building-video-editing-pcknowing-your.html

The hardware items list are there. Let me know if I've left anything out. Touche'

regards,
Fadly :)

Thanks for sharing. I did think of putting together a PC previously. This would be useful in the future. :)

I DIY after I learn how to do it when someone install a 386 for my family. Then since that time, I never buy ready made (unless laptop). Current computer, enough to last me another 5 years down the road. :D

The new Mac Pro is awesome @ USD$2999 .... If you doing it professionally, this is way to do it ... No more DIY.

I refer to the graphics card shown with 2 fans.

I ever had a graphics card with a built-in fan that died after some time.

Since it is a moving part, fan failure is inevitable. Maybe better to have a graphics card with big heat sinks instead of built-in fans that cannot be removed.

Honestly, the new Mac Pro is really cheap, not Windows cheap but still cheap compared to the old days. However the only upside for the new form factor is portability, especially for outdoor productions that require the use of it on location.

Imagine the days of carting your full tower Mac Pro around, those days are over. You can easily fit a few of the new Mac Pros into a full size Pelican.

Agree ... I rather bring this around than my huge imac ...

If going for a outdoor shoot that requires you to edit on the spot but you don't have a macbook pro, this is the next best thing (still do need a monitor)

This will be great for 4k on set editing. Macbook Pro can't handle 4k as yet.
