I was going to ask Mal how did you guys manage to get the props... now that I've read this..

I suggest that you also delete the above quoted post.

Hi CYRN:

This is the picture of the cast and crew of COUNTDOWN -1.00.

The production is currently on hold as we had some location and sponser issues during the last shoot.

As of now, we welcome anyone and everyone who can contribute in anyway; acting, driving, cars, food, sponsers, location, script insights..

Feel free to PM either me.. Mal.. or BLT :D

Its a hot topic there, and it generally requires less resources. The epics produced in china and hong kong are generally kung fu ones. I'm sure its possible to do a saving private ryan type of show, but the resources required are massive - saving private ryan had a 70 million dollar usd budget.

Dont give up on your dream bro.
you are never too young to dream.

Was mindlessly surfing when i chanced upon this.

What can I say? It looks impressive. But I haven't really got around to watching it yet.

Hey samvision! Visited your website and saw your videos - you're doing well on ur side man!
You are welcome anytime to help us out! (:
Maybe we can work something out before I start my next productions.

Hey jsbn, send me your address..
I'll mail you a copy on DVD. (:

Cheers! and happy new year.

I'd juz watched thru it that WMV copy, some of my comments. I'm not really a filmmaker, but I thought it can somewhat be improved:

- Close that chicken wing! I'm not really sure how its done, but for the movement where the SWAT enters the house in the opening part, the lights on the guns were turned on. Perhaps to show the numbers but u guys can probably make it more 'authentic' by turning the lights off and getting a few more chaps to run in together with the SWAT to generate a feel of more ppl.

How abt recycling actors as well and changing camera angles to make it seem like there are SWAT all over the house instead?

- Somehow, the show seems to be running in a non-linear fashion? Might be ok if its an artistic film I thought. Matter of personal opinion.

Hi jsbn,

Thanks for your honest comments. Really appreciate it. Ah yeah we never really noticed the 'chicken wings'. All our actors never went NS before haha (: Anyway, we couldn't turn off the light because the camera we used for that one scene, the DVX102b, didn't have sufficient low light capabilities *cough* unlike the Canon XL-2 *ahem*.

Oh and yes the film runs in non-linear fashion. It was a deliberate effort on our part to increase originality, enhance tension, and confuse the audience =P Nah lah its not purely artistic. Action films like The Usual Suspects, Memento, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, all utilize non-linear. Anyway, thanks ever so much for the feedback. Anything else we can improve on btw?

eh .. ur post here more hot than on sgfilms.com/forum eh.. aniway.. i posted a LONG reply to that .. go c go c.. i m johnaturn on both forums yea.. haha.. cool film ..

just watched the film. good job.

only two comments. the first is the CG simulating gun fire. Not sure what you can do with the props, but those CG is definately a distraction. I could not help laughing.

the second is the telling of the story. it depended on the girl telling the audience what happenned, a sign of a weak script. I like the non-linear approach, but having to have a story teller is not a good thing.

All said, very good effort.

Hey man thanks. I can't seem to open the sgfilms website though. Think server is down or something. Or maybe its my end. Anyway, will post reply there.

Haha yeah I get that alot. I'm the worst technical-computer graphics designer you can possibly find but what to do? Can't get real guns that fire blanks (and a proper animator to go along with that) so I had the job of putting cheesey FX in heh.

Oh actually ah, I deliberately made it like that. I was thinking of going along the lines of The Usual Suspects, Lucky Number Slevin, Spanish Prisoner, etc.. Basically one of those flicks in which you dont know anything until the protagonist reveals it all in the end. Admittedly, we could've made it more subliminal but ah well. Will work on that better next time

Thanks for all your comments btw and happy new year!

Just posted the DVDs out. Sorry for the delay...been pretty busy

Hey Everyone!

I just registered so what's a better to intro myself than showcase one of my latest vids I did in August. Basically, Hobbes/David, MalcolmOng and I have been working on this 30 minute film, Countdown, for the past 3 months. Shot with a wide spectrum of random handycams and an XL2, DVX100B and a PD-170, Countdown is essentially a huge 60-70 people production. Organizing everyone was admittedly rather difficult to carry out because we only had one and a half days to shoot everything due to location constraints. We used about 14 hours in total to shoot this film and a record 15 MiniDV Tapes.

Anyway, I shall quit blabbering and let the production speak for itself. I've been told that actings a bit under par and the animations are a bit the lame... But I think its the best we could do as 16/17 year olds in Anglo-Chinese School (Independent).

So here goes the Synopsis. Do enjoy it!

Synopsis:
A cop desperately trying to hide a dark secret, an opportunistic mob boss, and a seemingly innocent office worker victimized by circumstance: Each of them driven by their own selfish motivations. Little do they know that when their paths collide in a complex chain of unprecedented events, their actions would ultimately lead to their inevitable demise ten minutes later.

In one of the largest and most epic films ever attempted by the finalists of Project Pilot and the Canon Film Festival with a cast and crew of over seventy people, Countdown is a fast-paced, intricately-spun and twisted action-thriller about the trappings of wanton greed, unavoidable causality, and most of all, ironic twists of fate.

10 Minutes. 3 People. 1 Destiny.

Please do enjoy the film and let me know if you have any comments, criticisms, feedback, suggestions, opinions, or hate - Anything goes. I wont take it personally so please do take the time to comment honestly. We would really appreciate it. Being only 16, we're looking forward to improving ourselves with your comments so fire away! Thanks. Oh and if you want a free DVD let us know and we'll send it to you free of charge!

Btw, as you probably realized, not all of our music is original so I am currently looking for composers before I send this around the festival circuit. Do feel free to contact me if you're interested. Thanks! Have fun and laugh lots watching! (:

Sounds exactly what we need... maybe we should meet up for coffee or somethin eh?

Regards
David

Ok lets set this thing up..
say Jan 27, saturday, 7pm Cityhall ?

impressive production design, including props, settings and ambiance. very detailed to produce the film's very own "movie poster". gives it a lot of identity instead of just any tom dick harry's work.

good job guys! looking forward to seeing more of your works. joining the next canon dv fest? ive been trying at it for 2 years but i havent gotten much out from it.

sigh. budding talents like you guys will replace old foggeys like me even before i begin! haha. all the best yea!

cheers,
hon wai
