hi... i am just curious if there is any softwares where you can watch videoc/movies and yet you can extract the sound effect/short clip? like you are watching a movie and you happen to like the theme/sound effect or some clips/scene and wanted to extract that part out... is there any softwares that allows you to do that?

cheerz

Watching a movie on TV, on a PC, or what? On a PC you can use a video editor like MovieMaker that is free with windows. If it's on a TV it's a bit more complicated. And if it's at a cinema it's called piracy. :)

not tv but your own vcds... surely its not considered piracy if it belong to you and its for your own usage right? i mean like you are watching vcd and you like a tone or a clip and wanted to extract it out for your own house video... is it possible?

btw which video software allows you to add graphics/animated/cartoons like you see in the tv?

tks

If you copy your own VCD and use it at home, nobody is going to bother or even know about it. If you shoot the latest blockbuster with your HDV cam from the screen at Golden Village then you might get into serious trouble. :)

VCDs are quite easy to work with. The video files on the disc have a .dat extension, just copy to your hard drive. You can often just rename the .dat as .mpg and proceed. Download TMPEGENC which is free, and use its MPEG tools to trim the mpg file to leave just the section you want to keep, and then save it. The advantage of using this software is that it does not recompress the video file so you maintain the original quality of the VCD.

Most video editing programmes will let you add graphics and cartoons to video, but if you want to actually create the graphics and cartoons, that's a much bigger subject.

Do a search lah, TMPEGENC is very easy to find. :)

What capabilities are you referring to, making cartoons and graphics? Most video editors (maybe all) cannot do this. You can look at Daz Studio, Cararra, Poser for 3D modelling and animation, 2D I'm not sure what software can do it.

Easy. Use a video cam. Select DV out. REcord it to ur Mini DV tape. Wala!! U have ur video or tv programme liao. Once dowloaded to com... u can do wonders liao..

Well yes you can do this, but it will degrade the video a bit and also takes longer (e.g. a one hour video will take one hour to capture this way). If you just rip the dat files from the disc it is very fast and after trimming in TMPEGENC you can save the clips without recompression. But whatever gets the job done is OK also. :)
