Vid Cam For Recording Cooking Videos

Hi guys

I'm helping a friend start a cooking site which will feature videos of the recipes.

I'll be helping with the filming but i'm totally new to vid cams.

I'm guessing one that has an image stabilizer and relatively decent optical zoom would be ideal for the job.

Don't need a high end model. Just an entry level model would suffice.

Any recommendations?

You will need 2 cameras at least for continuity shooting and easy time truncation. Best to use identical cameras for easy post production and color continuity. Choose a camera with filter thread and attach a magnification filter for those awkard range where the dish is too near for zoom focusing and too far for the macro mode.

I'm probably looking at just using one camera at the moment as the focus will be more on the kitchen table then the chef.

Are there any specific vid cam models that you can kindly point me to?

The best consumer camera available out there is the Sony PJ760. It has a stabilisation system that makes your handheld look like tripod shots. The touchscreen focusing will make your shoot much easier. It's almost impossible to screw up with this camera.

The features look really good but the price point is pretty out of my reach at this point.

May have to consider something more entry level

Consider the Panasonic SD90. Still a very good release considering the successive models are not as wide and have not improved on the already very good stabilizer. It even has a mic port. Only irksome thing about SD90 is audio monitoring. You have to mod the AV out cable as there is no headphone jack. Best camera yet under $1000

uh, really depends on your budget. i was involved in a recent cooking show using 3x C300 and separate audio mixing.
perhaps you might want to consider DSLRs.
