[ Vanity ] Olympus EM-5 accessories thread

Hi, I am just an amateur in photography. I just got my OM-D yesterday. I had never use a hood before :embrass: even though the lens with my Nex-5N comes packaged with hood.

Just like to know if it is worth the trouble to use the hood - for me, without "hood" experience, the hood just seem like an extra piece of thing to carry! Appreciate any advice or opinion. Thanks.

I'll leave others to the technical explanation.

I just needed protection for my 12-50mm instead of using filters.

Exactly, that's why I use hoods as well. I'm not a huge fan of UV or clear filters.

Short answer: prevents/reduces lens flare. When you take a photo on a sunny day, or compose a shot with the sun facing you (but not necessarily the sun in the shot), lens flare may occur. Sometimes its purposely achieved for artistic effect, other times its a white blurry patch on your photo. The hood blocks off the sun's rays going into the lens from the sides to prevent lens flare.

For some others, the hood makes the whole package looks nicer

Just got my EP-11 Eyecup, it's very nice, a lot better than I had thought. I can look into the viewfinder with both eyes open now, and still get a very clear isolated view of the viewfinder.

To put it in perspective, if the regular eye-piece was a television set, the EP-11 eye-cup makes it a home theatre system.

Yup, sold out online but it was $25. The original lens hood (12-50mm) is sold out online since today, too.

Any brother know where to get 46mm hood summicron and its front lens cap for Panny 20mm 1.7 in SG? Thanks in advance.

Hello, what's a good (smallest possible, don't look "cheap" and yet not "eye catching" so as to avoid potential problem overseas) camera bag for the following:
1) OM-D with 12-50
2) OM-D kit flash
3) 1 extra battery
4) 9-18 lens
5) 75-300 lens

Many thanks.

Just use Think Tank Photo Skin pouches in a normal backpack

is there a wireless remote trigger w/ lockable bulb button for the E-M5?
if not, is there a wired version?
appreciate any leads on brand/model name and where to get.
thanks
