I'm looking to get my first tripod ....any suggestion or advice for a canon 7d user ?

Manfrotto.

Don't even waste your time on Vanguard.

Any suggestion on which model to get ?

hi, i got the 7D too. It depends on what you want to use it for and your budget. As i'm learning to do macro, i got the manfrotto 190XPROB and 496RC2 ball head. These can easily take the weight of the 7D even with a macro 100mm lens. The tripod you can get within the region of $190 to $210 and the ballhead about $110. For something lighter, i.e. carbonfibre, you are looking at anything about $400-$500.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

what's wrong with Vanguard? pls dont just thrown a comment like this, state your view...if not, how to support your bias comment?

i own both vanguard & Manfrotto, i use for different purpose, and vanguard for me is lighter to travel....

you must be using having big arms...

Thanks for the these reply...so to get a light type would mean carbonfibre.

Which model number for carbonfibre are better for manfrotto ?

I've used Benro, Manfrotto, Gitzo, Vanguard and even tried Fancier briefly.

Gitzo aside, I think Manfrotto stands out as the best tripod among the lot though Benro is not far behind.

If you really want some other options, consider Benro also. Jack (at peninsula) is often willing to help.

Also, when buying a tripod, ask yourself what are the main uses. Some buy for travel thus they need light weight. Some buy for serious studio work thus they need heavy sturdy tripod.

Manfrotto.
Try the 190CX version. Carbon-fibre, light-weight and hence easily to carry around. Plus a simple ball-head like the 486CR2.:)

get a giottos if you can find it. :bsmilie:

quality on par with manfrotto, 20% off the price of manfrotto. the joys of monopolising singapore as manfrotto are boundless!

Is this 1 of the lightest combination around ?

coz mainly use it for traveling around oversea....dont want it to be too bulky or heavy :)

I used to own the 486RC2 and I do not like it for a few reasons:
1. The RC2 quick release plate not as secure.
2. There is only 1 knob to tighten the ballhead... no tension and panning settings.
3. The ballhead tends to shift even after tightening, so it take more time to frame and reframe.

I find the Sirui G20 better than the 486RC2 at that price range... but there are of course better ballheads... and more pricy too :)

If you want a light-weight tripod for travel, you can have a look and test at the Sirui range at TK Photo.

Pardon the noobness..... TK Photo = ?

Get Manfrotto from SLR Revolution in Funan. #05-K7

or you get from CathyPhoto as they have special offer for Manfrotto tripods @ http://www.cathayphoto.com.sg/offers/brand/manfrotto

For your info, I bought my 055XPROB from Cathyphoto plus a 496RC2 ballhead from SLR Revol... heavy but no choice given that my camera setup weight is about 3 kg

Hmm vanguard really so chiu ah?

Mine seems perfectly fine supporting my 7D with 10-22 lens (1.15kg). :S

No issues at all.
