UWA - Ultra Wide Choice for Full Frame

I initially ignored this but was quite amazed by this comparison;

16-35 vs Samyang 14mm f/2.8

Only for landscape use though (without filters), no AF, stop down metering etc. A cheaper option along the lines of using an adapted 14-24.

hmmm. i dont see whats wrong with a 17-40L, really. other it being an f/4 lens, sharpness/color and all is pretty decent.

i mean seriously, if you require f/2.8 in your style of shooting, then yes, the 16-35II will be better for you, but if not, the 17-40 does the job really fine.

i have used extensively both lenses, and honestly, it didnt feel that great of a difference 'cept for the aperture.

and yes, the 17-40 is very very light. i didnt realize how light it was until i was using the 16-35II extensively...

Yeah, one third the price of 16-35. The only draw back is the manual focus which is not really a big issue with dealing with landscapes.

looks like TOKINA 16-28 F2.8 lens is going to kill EF 17-40 F4L, EF16-35 F2.8L, price :850 USD

I owned the EF17-40 F4L and Tokina 11-16 f2.8 before. Tokina is winner, sharp, vivid colour, good contrast. build like solid tank.

Shame, CANON:thumbsd: UW

There is always a possibility that newer lenses will surpass older ones. The real winner is if you can find one lens that you will use your entire lifetime.

When the lens got stuck because of low resale value? ;p

I bought my 17-40L NEW back in 2003 at $1100

Sold it away to 2nd hand dealer at $850

That's depreciation of just 20%, or $35/year

look out for the new canon 14mm f/2.8 mkII. :)

Oh I see 16-28 uh

With manufacturer keepiing on refreshing their lens...... I do not think any lens will last a life time in usage... most if can last for 10 yrs is pretty good already...

Actually you are lucky as there was a price increased in lenses a couple of years back, else your loss will be more.

actually, lenses can last pretty long. It is just that we tend to forget why we bought the lens in the first place, when there is something new on the shelf.
