Hi, may i know whats a UV filter for? is it a must to have?

some people say Singapore dont need to have UV filter unlike overseas.
I not quite understand that too.

But anyway, i dont see any diff in pics whether have uv filter or not.
However, i still put for protection.
Then again some people say putting extra lens/filter on top is degrading the pic quality.

mostly UV filter is use for front element protection, to avoid finger print, dust, or water droplets.

cheap UV filter may cause ghosting and degrading image quality, and not easy to clean also.
