Utterly horrible, unprofessional and totally digusted service at Lord's

Not going to comment on bad service at any shop. There is always a black sheep.

But what interest me is Marc's friend got to "borrow" a non-inexpensive lens for a oversea trip and had the great option to pay only at a later time. Wow. I must really visit this shop and befriend with James.

My brother and I bought tons (ok, more likely to be kg) of equipment from the regular shop (ONE shop). Must have spent 6-digit collectively all these years  . I've never been treated like Mr. Wang's friend. Yes, I got allocated a D200/D2X faster than many others and not having to queue. I pay maybe 1 to 3% less than others, and get a low-value freebies once in a while. But not once the shop loan me a lens. Yes, I loaned an expensive carbon-fibre tripod from the shop. But it was a demo unit anyway from the sole agent.

I have to review my relationship with this regular shop. Can I use Lord's/James as reference? :p
You should, you'd probably be allowed to walk out with even prototypes of D3X and D3Hs :bsmilie:

wonder what happened to THAT lens??? :dunno:

re-sold it as first hand? :thumbsd:
use it as demo?
sell at a special price?

Definitely sold off at original pricing, or even higher to some unsuspecting student(s) or tourists or singaporeans.

Haha I have the same experience thats why I say trust is another thing but allowing a 17-55 to be brought overseas to be used and only pay up if liked is another thing to me. I am thinking is it fair to others ?. I will probably avoid the shop if I know the "service" extend to such trust even if the shop is going to loan me the lens.
Lucky Plaza shops WILL BE lucky plaza shops

This is getting out of hand. Obviously there is enough reason/comments here to prove that Lords is just like any other shop, just like CP, AP and MS Color. No point arguing over here. Whoever goes there better be prepared to know who to look for and what to expect. Prices especially.

I move to close this thread.

My colleague likes Lords.
He may have got good treatment cause he gets stuff like Nikon D2X and some fancy lenses from them.
Could it be that they "kwa lang"?

Not sure.
Personally I buy cheap stuff only so afraid t ostep in to the "high class" photo shops at Lucky Plaza. hee....hee....:bsmilie:

After reading through 8 pages, I think all points have been duly noted.

The main issue to me has been resolved; i.e. the thread starter has been given the comfort that the price was not over and above what he would have paid in other reputable stores although the service levels were questionable.

The rest of the posts have confirmed either for or against using the various shops for their future purchases even after a certain unconfirmed shocking revelation of selling "demo" lens as new. Alot of debate went about business making money versus making money whilst providing a service decent of any respectable human.

I think it was certainly a hot topic but perhaps we should consider a conclusion in the following order:

1) That the thread starter is happy with the fact that he bought something within the price range albeit at an unsatisfactory service.
2) That all in CS are aware of this and through the various posts know whom to approach for when shopping?
3) That we should also bear in mind that courtesy begets courtesy and that businesses and consumers have a choice...they can choose to set the price and service and the consumer can choose to buy or not.

I have visited all stores, and shopped at most and for those that I write off, it is never forever....I don't like to write off my options and eat humble pie thats why. But seriously, it is all a matter of it takes two hands to clap....Try being nicer and people will usually respond.
It works in all relationships doesnt it?

In anycase, have fun and thanks for this interesting thread! Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone

Most sensible.

Never burn the bridges as you pass, you'll never know when it can come in handy on your way back.

If they don't allow an exchange, that's bad service and unfair to customers.

If they allow an exchange, they are accused of re-cycling the returned items.

I'm not associated with any camera shop, but on that kind of reasoning the shops can never please anyone!

If the items sold were defective, then yes it's a good service to exchange them.

But to 'loan' out lens or to allow customer to swap after used?.... I can't help but be very curious where does all the used lenses end up.

Of course back on the shelf and then resold as new. What else?

Since this is such a negative thread, I thought I'd brighten it up a little.

Went in to TK Photo today to have a look (ended up buying a couple of things) and the guy that served me was very helpful, polite and professional. I will definitely be going back there and will certainly recommend to others. Defintely on-par with Cathay.

That's seriously up to you, if you don't mind buying used glasses or have a conspiracy theory pulled one on you then go ahead.

I know I won't, I rather pay a premium more at CP or go to my favourite shop - TK. At least these two never fails me. Even if they have bad complains, at least they don't loan their equipment out for a week or two and come back resale as new ones. :nono:

Smell what? I didn't say anything wrong did I? You mean people can come in and say Lords is good but I can't say my favourite shop TK is good?

I wouldnt take the story about loaning the lens out seriously until I got full and complete version. You are going unusually to the extreme to discredit 1 shop based on hearsay. Here you are happily writing off the shop and yet you are willing to go back to CP even tho there has been negative feedback about it as well. Double standards here, dont you think so? Hard not to think that of your previous posts in this thread.

Don't need to have the full and complete version as some people have already mentioned this in their posts, all I did was to reiterate what others have said. :nono:

I'm not out to discredit the 1 shop, like student said, measure the overall before deciding, so you tell me, loaning items out and then resale it as new is it fair to others? I'm against this act and not the shop now :nono:

At least even CP with a bad track record would never loan it's equipment out to others for testing. Even if I have to pay a premium, I'd rather go there knowing that my equipment is new. They won't even charge me overly high for that matter either.

I don't think I'm double standard.
