Using Wide Angle / Tele Converter on your camera

I am new to DSLR and would like to try it out as a newbie then as I graduate later to more experience, I will consider to buy another len to fit all. Please advise. Thanks.

IMHO, dont waste ur money.

So far of all the wide con I have tested, Oly is one of the best with compact p&s, 2nd hand market cost less than $100, I wont even use it with my DSLR.

Why won't you use it with a DSLR?

Thank you so much for the thread. Didn't know i was actually being conned. As i wanted a wider lens in exchange for my Tamron Lens 18-200mm. Learnt my lesson. No wonder the shots i've taken with the converter looks kind of noisy.

Thanks to the one who started this thread. CHEERS !!!

My personal opinion on wide angle converter is that it is definitely a cheaper alternative to achieve extra wide angle. The picture qualify of course could not be compared with the dedicated version from the makes of original but some converters out there will still produces reasonably good image quality with correct setting. The best way is to try out the converter with your lens, take a few pictures and review immediately whether the center and side are sharp. Pictures with vignette, blur side resolution and serious chromatic aberration (purple fringe) are not acceptable and should not be purchased. Hope this would help all who are considering to purchase converters for their lens.

if the converter doesn't produce soft output like those of poor handphone cameras then TS is in luck...

I just did a test with Panasonic G2 Kit Lens n Canon TCDC52B 1.6x.

Settings :
G2 with 14-42 Kit Lens at 42mm with TCDC52B
16:9 Ratio
F5.6
1/60sec
ISO 400
Oly FL36
Hand held

There are vig & CA at the corners in the original image.

After looking through all these.
I can make a conclusion not to buy a wide-angle converter.
Although the kit lens of 18-55 is wide enough, but I am looking a converter to put on my prime 35mm f1.8.
Guess I have to save a bit to look for better ones then :)
