However, playing with vintage lens carries a relatively high risk of getting lemons. You need to know how to check the lenses for imperfections before you can really see results that these optics originally built their reputation on.

When I cliked on that BIN button, I was mentally prepared to get a lemon. So if I got anything better than that, I'm in luck Haha..

Wah..nice lens...did u try shooting at f1.5?
I know the nikkor is still very sharp at f1.8..how does this lens compared with wide open?

The bells on the wooden temple door was taken wide open, as with a few of the prayers shots... I'm happy with the sharpness on film. Will try it wide open on digital once i get some time later on :)

You flatter me Ed. I don't think I'm qualified to give advice, but just sharing some of my limited experiences. Your copy of this lens looks good. Very nice pictures.

Thanks Benny! You're the canon guru lah
I got a nice copy from HK not too long ago, albeit with some minor cleaning marks and it didn't come cheap. Inspired by your thread, I took the lens out for a spin and really  this lens!

Last few shots from the super presto roll...

Thinking of another purchase? :p

I read about it online but nvr saw one before..

The lens arrived today from JP. Took a few test shots and I'm confused... not really sure if it is a lemon, a diamond, or a demon?!!

For those who own this lens, can you describe what is the characteristic of its IQ wide-open? My copy produces image with good resolution BUT with quite strong glow (especially for things like white words on black, no noticeable glow for black word on white). Stopped down just 1 stop to f2, glow all gone and the lens is brilliant. Sharp but gentle, very pleasing.

Do you have similar observations?

The "glow" from this lens is not that strong. Perhaps your copy has haze. Have you checked?

Cheers,
