Using IS vs Non IS lens

Hi,

Currently I have canon 10-22, and 18-55 (non IS) and was thinking to get 18-55 IS (kit I lens) for video because of the IS (image stabilizer) features.

Is there any significant different taking video with IS (VR/OS/ or any other vibration reduction) lens? I understand if you use telephoto lens, you definitely need the IS. But for the 18mm, do you need it?

Most likely I will take the video handheld.

Thanks for the advice.

If you are shooting handheld it is much better to use IS. Even if you think you are holding the camera steady, when you playback on a big screen you often see lots of small juddering shaky movements. Or maybe it is only me ha ha.

I will consider 18-55IS kit lens or Tamron 17-50VC (expensive though).

Any other choice? canon 17-55 f2.8 is to expensive for me.
