17-40? I travel often for business trips and i prefer a wide angle lens for my landscape.... 17-40 to me so not wide compared to 11-16mm or 10-22mm and i hardly carry my 1Ds for travel.... Maybe i should rephrase it as a travel lens?

u can't use the tokina on ur 1DSMKIII properly.
there will be a circle of blackness as its not a 135 lens but APS-C lens.

He's intending to use it with his 1000D. Check out page 1.

whats the pricing?

Retails for around $900 in most reputable shops here. Saw a few copies of both Canon and Nikon mount at John 3:16...they always seem to have new stock. A lot of people bought theirs there. ;)

why get this lens? the old one is cheaper and more versatile. 12-24mm f/4.
although this new lens is bright f2.8, i think i wont be using 2.8. I will use wide angle lens for landscape scenery, or indoor group fotos, which i wont use 2.8 for the depth. for wide angle lens, any experts there that can advice in what scenarios where it is useful and almost a must (otherwise cant take good foto) at 12mm at f2.8 stop instead of f4? :embrass:

When you are shooting indoors in reasonable levels of available light (where f/2.8 will suffice), and want an ultrawide perspective. It's the same reason why the 16-35mm f/2.8 was made, although I must say that has a much more usable range, even on a full-frame camera, as compared to the almost-fixed-focal 11-16mm f/2.8.

These were shot at 16mm, f/2.8 on a 1.3x crop body

My only justification for f/2.8 on a UWA is the extra stop of light gathering that it gives me on events. Think of it this way: I can stop down a native (widest aperture) f/2.8 lens to f/4, f/8 or f/11, but I cannot open up a native f/4 lens to f/2.8.

Any update on this issue ie., Tokina 11-16mm with D80? I am currently thinking of getting this lens.

Thks!
waiting list for tokina 11-16mm at MScolor...

tried all 3 on crop body: 10-22, Tokina 12-24mm f4, and tokina 11-16.

IMO,
Get the tokina 11-16 if u wan fast lens. But compared to canon, this 11-16 has more flare & more distortion.
I prefer the tokina 12-24mm in terms of value, least distortion amongst the 3, bright colors, good range, though not as wide as cannon, and solid quality build.
Canon has fastest AF but i figure price and value wise, canon is at the bottom.

I juz briefly tried it.. sometimes it's accurate sometimes it's not.. or maybe it's me?

Why is this lens amazing? Well I haven't tried any other lenses before so I'm not sure what is considered amazing, but compared to my 18-55 I don't have to take several steps back anymore. In the car photos I'm about a metre away!

I also never thought I could do closeup shots either with this lens, but the real test are the landscape shots which I have yet to do.

Thanks for the sample pics

Am looking to get the 11-16 for my D90.

Wonder if anyone have tried and would kindly give their opinions

yap yap..

I have a D70 and the 11-16mm lens. Works great. Sorry, cant comment on the D90 , but tried it once on a fren's D80, and it works great !

Love the speed on this lens !

How much is it selling at this moment....

actually wanted to buy 12-24, but somehow kinda hooked to fast lens...

Hope someone will be selling it in buy and sell forum if 1sthand is too expensive
