Used M8.2

Apologies for the OT.

Anyone with spare UV/IR cut filter to let go?
I'm looking for 43mm, 48mm and Series 7.
I've the 39 and 46 but they don't fit my lenses.

Any pointers on where I can buy these? Leica or otherwise.

Thanks!!

Try the usual stores like P&G, Benphoto, Prime @ Pennisula. E43 and Series 7 should be able to find. 48mm you can order from Popflash.com. Keep your E39 and E46 when you eventually buy Leica lenses. :-)

I went down to Poison Triangle during lunch. All the usual suspects don't have any of these filters. They have the more common 39/46/55.

Anyway, bought a step-up ring from 43->46 as an interim measure for the M8.2.
Will use the Series VII and odd-ball 48mm (Canon 50f1.4) for my analog camera.

:)

Camera Workshop has a 48-49 step-up ring if that helps. You can get the Rollei front cap for the 49mm. I got my 48 n 52 UV/IR from Popflash. Shipping is a bomb so consolidate your orders. While you're at it, get a 40.5, 52, 58, 43, 46, 39 as spare. You never know when u need it again. I've stocked up quite a few of these filters including, UV and colored filters for my film M.

Too bad I only got 1 48mm, if not wouldn't mind selling u a spare.

You can use E49 as a series 7. see this post.
E43 comes in 2 thread pitch-Leica one is 0.5 while B+W is 0.75.
Old lenses, like Nikkor50f1.4 takes 0.5 pitch threaded filter but sometimes, the 0.75 can fit. I think probably due to previous owner using a 0.75 filter, thus distorting the threads. So a Leica E43 should fit a Nikkor50f1.4. Best to try first before you buy. You can arrange with this "Painless Dentist" to try out if you want.:)

I can fit B+W UV n UV/IR on my Nikkor 50 f1.4 LTM with no issue. :)

Thanks for all the advice Dave and Dr P.

For now, I will stick to the 43->46 step-up ring for my 50lux version 1 with teh 46 UV/IR cut filter and use that as my primary lens for color on the M8.2. Will continue to lookout for the 43 UV/IR cut filter.

For my Series VII lens (35 lux pre-asph), it is more problematic as I don't have the original hood that can accept the Series VII or E49 filter. I bought the square hood which I like better. Will use this lens as my B&W lens on M7. If can find the filter, will buy the hood.

For my Canon 50f1.4 (48mm), will use it as B&W lens on M7 as well.

. If can find the filter, will buy the hood.

Filter definitely can find but #12504 hood is a little harder. Look for the hood first, then can buy S7 or E49 filter.

sorry if this is terribly OT and a stupid question to ask but what's that little glass-looking circle on the front of the m8 next to the leica red dot for? (i was thinking Maybe for metering or AF but definitely a no for obvious reasons haha) it's been bugging me for ages!

The 1st rectangular next to the M8 is the "Distance meter viewing window".
The circle next to the Leica red dot is the "brightness sensor".

These are from the instruction guide.

Thanks! any idea what the brightness sensor does though? Metering is ttl right.

I understand that the brightness sensor helps in two things:
- control the brightness of the LED display in the viewfinder depending on the ambient brightness
- the ambient brightness info is also used when AUTO ISO is used during Aperture Priority.

"As well as the five fixed settings, the LEICA M8.2 also
features an AUTO ISO function, in which the camera
automatically adjusts the sensitivity to the ambient
brightness. When used with aperture priority mode1
(see p. 128), this considerably extends the range of
the automatic exposure control, specifically by up to 4
aperture stops."

Wongsan, I thought i was bad, flying through Leica Ms and gear. But dude, you just flew right past me on a Concorde. haha.

Leica should thank Olympus and Panasonic for surge in popularity from M4/3 converts.

Dear all,

I fly back to SG on Wednesday. Besides Benphoto in Peninsula, any shops are selling used Leica gear. Please advise.

Thanks,
GF

"P & G photo" adjacent to Benphoto. There are also 2 shops next to Cathay photo at Peninsula. There is Ron camera at Adelphi Orchard.

I had problems sourcing for the UV cut filters when i first bought the lenses.

I managed to get 2 from ebay and 1 from benphoto.

For 2 of the filters, I got them slightly bigger then the funny sized that leica lenses comes in. I fit them with a step up adapter ring.

I went there (Peninsula Plaza and Shopping) today. Could not find Benphoto on 2nd floor.

If you are facing P & G, Benphoto is on the right. It is at the food court or coffeeshop and operates almost like an open counter. These are all near Excelsior Hotel, but we call it Peninsula in general.

I think you may have gone to the Cathay photo side.
