RD, what do you think about *gasp* mounting Voigtlander lenses on an M6 body?

Wouldn't it be better off getting good condition used Leica glass? May not be much of a difference in price there. Unless one is interested in the exotic lenses like the CV 12mm or 15mm or the 35/1.2!

well i happen to think Voigtlander lenses are a godsend for Leica users :) A "cheap" used M6 body and a couple of Voigtlander lenses is a great way to start.

I personally dislike the Voigtlander Bessa R / R2 bodies, though this is definitely a personal preference thingy. (hint: build quality, feel of shutter release and quietness makes all the difference) But the lenses are a different story though. Greg's 21mm f4 voigtlander has excellent optics and i never cease to amaze at its size, and that of the 25mm f4 (shorter than a canister of film!!!)

in fact i'm right now awaiting an email from hksupplies regarding the price of that 21mm lens :)

I'm also considering the Voigtlander Ultron f1.9 as an alternative for the Leica version. It's reputed to have more of the old school look than the newer Leica f2 design for a 28mm. (read: better bokeh) Can't verify that since i haven't shot with one before, but comparing my old 50mm f2 Summicron with my 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH, one can definitely tell the difference in the look - the 35 is somewhat harsher in the rendition of the OOF areas. But it is also of course much better than the 50 wide open, sharper and more contrasty. The best lens i've ever used so far, and at the price it commands, it better be! :)

the 50mm f1.5 nokton is also a good buy, though it doesn't focus closer than 1m. If u want small and pocketable designs, I think Voigtlander has pancake and collapsible versions of their 28 and 35mm lenses. Very cute and cost no more than your regular Canon primes...

Voigtlander is a cult. Just like Leica...only cheaper :D

oh ya, i forgot about the 35 f1.2 - the fastest 35mm lens in production...

a couple of long time Leica pros / users from the LUG now swear by this. and it is cheaper i believe than Leica's f1.4 version. Together with the 12 and 15mm lenses, they complement Leica's lineup and line up their own pockets at the same time. those shrewd japanese know exactly wat they are doing :)

ch,
VC lenses are made in the 21st century with state of the art optical technology. They are mostly better than old, ie 50s and 60s, Leica lenses. Can't say the same if compared to the latest ASPH though. I don't mind having an old 50s Leica lens for nostalgic reasons, and also to match my M3 or M6 body, but I really doubt they will be as good, much less better than my current crop of VC lenses.

Yes, streetshooter, mounting VC lenses on an M6 is a very very good idea. :)

Red Dawn,

I did consider a new gray M6 TTL but the shop that I checked in the peninsula area couldn't get one.

I think the very strong euro in 2003 has made new M6s from HK quite pricey too. About S$3.6k nowdays. Unfortunately, I did not have enough dough to buy it in 2002.

wat the?!?!?!? $3.6k for a new M6?!?! :what:

that means i can sell mine second hand and still make money haha  .... but nah...... i've having too much fun with it. good investment though :)

hey i think u should look seriously at second hand M6s or M6TTLs then. Check the photo.net forums, join the LUGs and on Fridays which is the regular "For Sale" days, there are actually quite a lot of good offers around.

don't pay $3.6 for a M6! at that kind of price u might as well top up a bit and get the M7 or MP instead.......

$3.6K for M6 or M6-TTL?

New Classic? Quite unlikely in my opinion. 90% chance that it's for a TTL. I think it could be had for SGD 3.3K. Maybe you could write to Dr. Joseph Yao (joseph@yao.com). hksupplies have an online catalog with prices but one would have to get an email confirmation for the right price.

$3.6k is for a M6 TTL.

chgoh, you mean that if I write in to him i can get a better price from the listed price on his website? If can get for 3.3k then the price sounds ok for a new piece.

RedDawn, I've acquired a M6 classic and having quite a lot of fun using it. Have to agree with you that it is a good investment.
Will check the photo.net forums and the LUGs to get a feel on the market price and other offers.

Nah, I won't pay 3.6k for a new M6. Gray market MPs can be had for about $4.3k in the peninsula area.

Why don't you look up the price in USD on the hksupplies website. Should be quite accurate. Only that one of the conditions for a sale is that one confirms the price with hksupplies. It's all on the website, take a look.

Okay, save some of you the trouble for going to the website. The following was extracted from the site (all $ in USD):

For any following this thread who might be interested in a good Leica deal, there's one currently on in the Offstone Buy/Sell:

FS : M6TTL .72 plus Mmotor with 35 asph.

If I read the WTS ad correctly, I think this deal is NOT EXPENSIVE, it is downright CHEAP.
