Used a Phottix battery grip for 450D before? Share your views here.

hi people! honestly, i would really want to find out whether the Phottix battery grip is good. am considering it right now.
could anyone of you who are using both, the fantastic 450D and the Phottix battery grip for it, give a short review or advice on whether to buy it or not? i would appreciate any information regarding the battery grip!

Well, i've seen and used both before. Personally i felt the Canon Battery grip felt much better for me. Though, both are made in china, i like the desgin of the Canon version, compared to the Phottix version. It feels more solid to me.
They're not much of a difference. They work the same. Though there have been some issues with Phottix Battery Grips failing at times. Feed back from some of my friends as well as other users. But hey! these are electronics and they are bound to fail. The Canon Battery Grip isn't perfect as well. There were some issues of it.
They might not fail today, but it can fail tomorrow. Personally, you should go take a look at both. Buy the brand you prefer. Canon will be more expensive than Phottix.

Personally I don't use Phottix BG before but the battery are generally okie to me.
I suggest you to try out the BG to see which BG feels better in your hand. I personally found the Canon BG give me better feels... that why I choose the Canon BG.

I am also considering the phottix or original BG.
Anyway, if you are going for the phottix one, over at mass sales section, have MOs going on. Each MO organizer has their own selling price. I dunno why also. I recently bought a remote from ShutterCentral and he's carrying the BP-450D. I am not advertising for him thou. I dun get anything in return just that he's a great guy to deal with.

Yupp, if you know the real cost price of the Phottix Battery Grip, its pretty cheap. So that's why different organizer has his/her own selling price, to induce competetion.
Personally, I feel that the original battery grip is good, but it comes with no warranty, while i do believe the Phottix one comes with 1 week warranty from the organizer.
Yeap, Shutter Central is a nice guy. Bought my wireless remote from him as well.

If I am not wrong the original battery grip come with a 1 year warranty from Canon (there is a warranty card inside)... Curious does the Phottix Battery Grip accept AA Batteries like the Canon's? :think:
There's no warranty card for battery Grips. And original battery grips, do not come with warranty. The Phottix Battery Grip accepts both AA alkalines or Battery packs.

As long it's of the same current and voltage values should be fine. Like 1800mah battery should go with another 1800mah battery.

Most battery grips come with 2 magazines.Does this battery grip allows AA battery??

One to insert AA batteries and the other for the lithium battery packs. You should check out if it comes before buying. Why don't you try the Phottix brand, rather than this no brand battery grip on ebay.

i bought mine off ebay rather than CS. if you're interested, this ebay auction is reliable. They are selling at US$69.00 (translating to S$99.20) with free shipping to Singapore. Registered mail costs an extra US$2.00. I paid for registered mail, the package was shipped on 2/Jan/2009, and I received on 7/Jan/2009. Singpost's fault for late delivery -- when I checked Singpost's registered article tracking, package was received by Singpost on 3/Jan, but only processed for delivery on 7/Jan.
Why i bought from ebay? Because CS sellers are selling MO (hey MO sellers, ain't it supposed to be cheaper or equivalent?!) of the same item at $110-140. Go check the prices yourself...
My comments about this grip? Well, the plastic feels solid, and the rubber "gripping pad" is of similar quality and matches the rubber "gripping pad" of the original 450D camera. I installed it with no problems, and it works fine.
The difference? The wheel is abit more recessed into the grip than the original 450D camera wheel, and it doesn't "click" as loud as the original 450D camera wheel, but the feel is good. All the buttons are sensitive enough, and the printing of the button labels is sharp.
Given the choice, I would still choose this grip, simply because for this price, I get a grip, AND 2 additional batteries. For the original canon grip, I get similar quality, but at a higher price, and no additional batteries.
