Samuri, why the hostility? A forum is also about free speech or does free speech not apply. I know some of the models on this forum, many of the photographers here and in Australia are my friends and I don't see it any harm in watching up for them of giving some pointers. Advice can be always given, whether it is taken aboard or not, is really up to them. It was never meant to be shoved down their throats. I have friends in model agencies, I was with a professional model agency in Australia (in case you don't know, I was there for 5 years before returning to singapore), I freelance for a professional photographer, I see how the business works in the photography work, I have done some producing (pre-production) work for our photography clients, so..let's see..do i have enough experience and knowledge to give advice, I think so. In this world, people need to watch out for each other.
Er...if there is no money on the table, it's considered free. I understand that some things are kept confidential, such as budget.
While true, there are free shoots on the market. Time-for-prints, time-for-cd, test shoots...all of which are for portfolio building of both parties, NOT for commercial reasons. I personally don't believe anything should come for free. People should do test shoots or photo-exchange only if they know and am confident it will ENHANCE their portfolio. Unfortunately with a lot of a freelance models (not all, coz there are professional models who prefer to freelance depending on the number of contacts and jobs they can pull in)who do not have the understanding, knowledge of their rights, what they are really signing away and get caught up in the little fairytale that if they get seen enough, someone will poach them to join their agency or be the next supermodel by discovering (that happens in about 1% of the time). Sorry, dreamland, but at the end, i still believe in the concept of choice, so if they still continue to send their pictures to you, good for them and they have my support, but at least you know they're making an educated decision, rather than just doing something on the whim. Whther you choose them or not, yes that's a different story, but that is just like any casting.
Also, the fact that you are a new member, sorry, but don't really have much of an option of reading your previous posts to get a gauge on what you do either. I used to work for magazines at SPH, so i know how much god damn money advertisers pay, so don't tell me the magazines doesn't have money to pay.
While I know you are probably just doing your job, and I have no intention of hijacking your thread, it's just advice and if you can advice as to why I'm not making sense (logic for logic, and not be all emotional - you are a guy right???) and why advice should not be given, why questions should not be asked or why people should just follow the crowd like sheep without using their brain of which is our most priced possession, I will leave your thread alone.
P.s If you are working for the mag that i think you're working for, I happen to know the photographer too.

Really...no offence [blank]not trying to harm your chances of finding models. You know me.
