Hallo everyone,...thanks for the congrats.

Hi PBear,.....I had viewed a few of your pics,...some of it from Beijing looks really good using your Nikon camera.

Tonight and yesterday night I was just doing some crazy random and clueless shots,...trying to just get the feel of the camera. Well,...I am overwhelmed by the endless options....And learnt a few things.

I got a long long way to go before deciding to create a Flickr account....otherwise they may ban me for posting lousy shots.

Thanks Weaver. Don't worry my photo stream is testament that they are tolerant of crappy shots. Don't be shy too coz people here will sometimes give you helpful tips on how to improve after seeing your shots. :)

Play around and keep shooting.. Also watch the Cameralabs videos on YouTube. Excellent explanations if you are a new shooter.. Digitalrev also has some good how-to videos. Downside to DR is that Kai is too full of crap much of the time.

Hi Weaver,

Ah.. new born...

mine too new born, abt 14mth++. Let me say, forget abt wanting the baby to collaborate with your shooting. you just never going be satis.
They Camera shy I suppose. End up I use my iphone 4 most of the time to capture the moment.

From my experience, have a good zoom len is good, you stay out of view while the baby minding his own business, then you kacha...
Take note of the baby background, position in advance if you in the mind for QUALITY shootings. either either way way over or under expose.

Close up is best of all infant photo. Their EXPRESSIONs worth millions.....
if wanna capture all, the infant will look out of attention. no have that baby feel...

if you are a pro, I rest my case. I failed so many shots.

Oh I used 135mm.

Its been fun learning a totally new tool,...so far I understood about the relationship between ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed now.
So far, all my shots had been just testing and experimenting about what different settings make to the photos.

I still got so much more to learn,...focusing / auto focus,...metering, WB adjustments,...or how to set the camera to automatically increase or decrease one stop EV, and so on.
I am going to meet up with a friend this weekend who uses Oly ELP2,...to get some tips of using camera.

Thanks for the recommendations on the videos,...will be watching them tonight and tomorrow night:)

Ok....so I am not the only one facing this challenge hehe,....last week I got only crappy shots using 14mm lense. Like you said, my wife got much better shots from her huge gallery in her Iphone4.
Will try again this week.

I am intending to purchase Olympus 45mm F1.8,....and I think with this fast lense,....I might be able to get better shots of my non-stop moving baby...hehe.

I am a total novice,....I think by the time I reach intermediate level, my baby will be a little kid already.

45mm shld be there, i dun think i use up to 135mm. F1.8 is fast, you will have a easier time, indoor. mine is a f3.5
Is not about you, i feel, is the camera, too slow in all ways... weight, convience etc... on the other hand iphone is much more handy.
now unless I have the mood for baby shot, i standby at least hours, just to take tht moment.

switch ON for hours, looking out for tht unique shot.

One thing you'd want to consider is that the 45mm has no stabilization (because Oly bodies have in-built IS), so you need to be steady when grabbing shots. Not that difficult to do actually.
