Hi guys! Am about to buy my new D100 body this evening/nite so am trying to get some last miniute data.

Cathay Photo
Foto guide
ALan Photo

Basically trying to get a recommendation on which shop I should get from. besides the price, other relevant factors would include the service quality - whehter they are frenly and patient, or grumpy and ah beng....and wehthr they allow pple to test the actual set for dead pixels (i actually brought my notebook computer along for this purpose) etc.

hope to get opinions on an urgent basis!!

hope to get all answers by 6pm tonite!

Thanks all!

This is my own opinion and please don't flame me. But I like to go to Alan. I've bought all my gears from Alan and they are very friendly and helpful (unless there are thousands of people there). They've also allowed me to examine the lenses for defects, and use the equipment in SLS taking shots to examine. Look for Anthony. He's very patient and also doesn't press you to get anything. Even advises you of alternatives if you have budget constraints etc....
I got my D100 and various lens from him.

Heh no worries no flames here! But i herad some opinions that AP is an ahbeng camera shop that presses u to buy stuff? hmm...maybe that anthony person is white sheep :) hehe

Vince everywhere has its stars and duds...

Alan is ok, I deal with Steve so don noe abt Anthony.

If possible ask someone to go down with you. I should be around CP area this evening (Stamford Library to be precise as I need to finish some work) and if you need help call me. That is if you intend to get from CP

For me, I go to John 3:16. As I am not too sure about the price of a D100 at that shop in Funan IT Mall, I am sure that they provide good service too. I normally deal with Leslie and Samuel. No doubt that their prices tend to be on the higher side (much like Cathay Photo), but you know that you will be getting a local warranty.

Their phone number is 63371897 or 63372877.

Hmm tried to call them few times already. but eveytime ther was no answer or i got a fax machine

does this mean that only CP or John give local warranty? how abt hte other shops? alan doens't give local warranty?

i used to think that if u buy from anywhere in SIngpoare u would get a local warranty....how does this warranty thing work>?

Tks all so far for their replies!

Alan photo should b fine as long u show some sincerity when u buy.

Alan also sells with local warranty. I can verify cos I updated my D100 at nikon house with no problems.
Actually everything they sell is with local warranty..you have to ask to have warranty removed specifically if you want to lower the price..whereas TCW does everything with a inhouse warranty.

Thanks all again for ur prompt responses

THanks also to Sebastian for his invaluable time and advice. Also to yellowtang

I think i would probably head down to AP to take a look and see how things go, if not then i would go down to CP.

If anyone who has personal good relations with AP and doesn't mind volunteering to accompany me or happen to be in the area at abt 630PM+ pls contact me at 96974115 and I would be very very grateful.

Thanks!

just a personal experience with AP... good one actually...

went into AP @ sls to 'look see look see', salesperson, can't rem name came up... usual 'yes, can i help?'.... i ask 'you sell the D100 here?'.... he replies 'yes, just that we dun display'... he walks down to the store room, takes out a brand new D100 in box and stuff... opens it.. puts in the batts and CF card... finds a lense... puts it on and passes it to me to test... he even explains to me the various functions... i asked him if he had the vert grip... he says 'now no stock, coming in next week'... i said 'thank you very much, i'll think about it'... he said 'no problem' and gave me his namecard..... i smiled and walked out...

:)

Good for you.

I was at AP just when they were about to close and I would have to add that they were generally helpful.

just bought at AP. must say the Anthony guy that yellowtang recommended was veyr helpful. left me on my own to play with the D100 while he went to talk with his fren.

:)
