Just wondering, are AP products grey market? I got a quotation over the phone for something, and it's $100 cheaper than CP! I did ask the person over the phone, and he said it's not a grey market product. Didn't dare ask again in case get scolded. ;p Will be going down soon. Thanks a bunch.

same thing happened to me when i bot the minolta 5600 flash ... price at AP was 70 bucks cheaper ... but everything incl of warranty seemed in order so ...

AP supposedly orders in MASS quantities, and supposedly pay by cash, so they are able to get very good prices. Their products seem to be the original (i.e. not "grey") though. Yeah, sometimes it becomes too cheap to be true...

Yes, AP carries grey market stuff. No, it's not what they quote you, unless you specifically ask for it.

My 70-200 IS is grey market, about $200 cheaper than the local version. Only difference is a one year warranty, after that both are exactly the same thing. Canon Singapore will repair any Canon item for cash, grey or otherwise. If covered by warranty then no need pay lah.

Ask for the price, then ask if they have "export" version. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks, Tempest, Ckiang and Streetshooter. Now I don't need to ask again, and get :kok: by them. Some of them look kinda thuggish to me, so I may need a male bodyguard later. :D Really dread going to that place. :(

So much dough! Their money must grow on trees!

So mean to say grey market products are export sets?
Also meaning they dun have warranty?

How much is the price difference?

Are they different in terms of qualities?
Me juz bought a 2nd hand camera. The seller says he lost the warranty and receipt. I am worried that its a grey market set.

last week i saw a caucasion customer standing beside me paid $12K in cash purchasing a few items.
their sales are consistantly pretty high i suppose.
maybe that explains they have cash power.

There would be no difference in terms of quality for a grey vs canon singapore set. Its from the same production floor, just that one is distributed by canon themselves, and the other is brought in by the retailers.

I was told Canon will honour the warranties that they issue, regardless of being local or international.

:D

Ok. Let me clarify. Grey market goods means that the shop did not import it through the usual channels, e.g Cannon/Nikon, etc. But grey market cameras and lenses are still covered by warranty, which will be honoured by ***??? The shop or manufacturer? Will Nikon service a grey market camera/lens within one year, and not charge for it?

Bought two cameras from them and both came with local warranty cards.

Not sure about the sources of grey vs non grey, nor about any possible differences in quality. But mine works great!

What I do know is this:

Equipment bought at retail price comes with local warranty, which is usually for one year. During this time, if anything malfunctions, you get either free repair or free replacement (but not, of course if you drop it or disassemble it). After one year, you can still get it repaired, but have to pay for it.

Grey equipment does not come with any warranty, so if it malfunctions, even within a year, you have to pay for the repairs.

The difference in situation between Singapore and say, USA, is that Canon Singapore will repair any equipment, grey or non-grey. Canon USA, on the other hand, will not repair grey market equipment, even if you opt to pay for it. At least, this is my understanding.

Yeah I know. I'm asking whether they'll honor grey Nikon stuff.

And I don't think it's been spun off. Rather taken over by Nikon.

Whatever, things does look better when it is Nikon Singapore compared to the Shriro days. But the staff appears to be the same. Dunno whether they will honour grey Nikon stuff, I guess as long as you pay for the services, they would.
