Upgrade to 5N or 7

I bought it from B&H in the U.S. However, I saw a set at Max Photo in Centerpoint the other day and one in the Metz boutique in Ngee Ann City. The Metz functions as a slave flash and syncs with a variety of cameras e.g., Canikon, Pentax, Sony Alpha in remote mode. However, the NEX 5N doesn't have the Sony Alpha flash remote control modes, so you have to use it as a slave flash in manual mode i.e., the little flash triggers the slave. Many people have had problems with this on other flashes because NEX has a preflash that confuses slave flashes (and which cannot be turned off). However, the Metz syncs fine as it can learn to avoid the preflash. I've not managed to get TTL to work. However, you can vary flash power manually and I've learned the different power levels for different object distances through trial and error and it works fine now. The flash mounts onto the front of the lens.

Hi sje4182, my apologies if my statement had mislead you. As kawaii kei1309 mentioned, I'm just referring to the possibilities a hot-shoe will bring for flash photography. Personally, the flash system is important to me especially when I shooting macro.

I use flash quite a bit too (although for different reasons) which is why I got de bigger hvl-f20s for my 5N. De kit flash wasn't good enough.

Yep, *if* I get de 7 I will also get dat. For now I dun have a choice.

The F20S works pretty well with the 5N. Here's a shot of F20S bounce diffusing with the 30mm Macro lens. Not much shadow below dragonfly. If I need more light, or from an angle, I can trigger a remote Metz 58 flash.

5n and 7 are different cameras.

for a compact lightweight fixed lens prime, the 16mm stock +5N with no attachments - the 5N is probably the best out there right now.

After handling the 5N for about 3 months I have totally no complain except the 5N's inability to shoot EVF n flash together. Holding the set-up like a DSLR is much more stable than at any other position which I have tried. So, if the 7 is anywhere close to the IQ of 5N, I will opt for the 7 as I will have further flexibility of using it with standard flash (both fill and bounce) for better indoor application. Once the final reviews of the 7's strengths and weaknesses are clearer, then I will decide whether I should add the 7 to the 5N. The 5N is so good, it will be a shame to just discard it for the 7.

5N set the standard so high its pretty hard to beat. And no, I do not think the 7 will be "as good". It will be a matter of compromising if the image quality is acceptable (for low to high ISO levels) for you as individual has different criteria for acceptability. Weighing between ergonomics vs price vs image quality is not easy. Even listing all the pros and cons do not always make it easy to decide.. lol

Didnt you see the UWA legacy lens color shift on 7? Is that firmware fixable? If not fixable, is that still acceptable to you?

After owning 5n for less then a mth.
Im quite happy about it, no major complaint.

Will i be getting the 7. Maybe......( or whatever nex flagship cam from sony)
Ill be investing on more sony nex lense.
Very interested on the nokton 50mm f0.95 even though its manual focus ill pick this any day over the cz
