Upgrade from sony nex 5 to d7000, worth it?

keep both, they are for different purpose, NEX-5 is a very good camera for travel.

Sorry guys , wasn't that specific enough.

I meant in terms of image quality, iso noise performance in low light.
Yup i plan to keep the Nex-5 for holiday purposes and purchase a new mid range DSLR for photography hobby. Been out to botanic garden and gardens by the bay , but i cannot get the shot I want with the NEX-5 as my lens are just the 2 stock kit lens. 18-55 and 24mm f2.8 lens.

So there thats where my question is coming from :)

Thanks guys for the honest opinions!

Same sensor (Nikon uses sony sensors) so very similar performance. The differences will come from everything else, like lenses, handling, features, etc

For the sake of the OP:
How to shoot gardens by the bay in low light

For scenery only, set camera to intelligent auto. Put camera on tripod, make sure flash is off. Point and shoot.
For people and scenery, set camera to p mode. Put on tripod, set flash to slow sync. Point and shoot.

Of course, there are more settings in P mode that you can try. These settings should get you started though. You shouldn't have any problems getting the shots using these settings with any mirrorless or dslr camera manufactured the last 3 years.
