Well, all I've to say is exploite your camera to the fullest. I change cameras because the former one does not have certain features and I've outgrown it.

Ha ha, I still remembers when I trekked some hills.....
So I planned to trek 25km over some hills, decide to dump the SLR and go for a 7hi instead....... Really glad I did that.

There are 2 2nd hand shops that stocks some minolta gear : Alex photo and TCW. Other than that, here loh.

Smart move on dumping the SLR. I trekked with a 505 , 24-85, 50mm, 75-300mm lens for 5 days in Annapurna Region ( Nepal ). There were times I really considered throwing away the cam into the valley.

If given a choice again, I will probably bring a prosumer digital cam ( and lots of AA batteries as there are no power source to charge those batts).

Woosy,

I have owned, used a Dynax 5, 800si , Dynax 7. The 5 and 7 have a faster auto-focusing speed ( very useful if you are shooting from a moving vehicle ). The 5 mirror slap is the lightest compare to the rest. 800si grip/handling is best in my opinion ( the only let down is the complex manipulation of the camera settings ). If you plan to get the 5, do the get the batt grip.

In terms of features , the 7 wins them all hands down. The mirror slap is still too hard for my liking. If you are looking to review data exposures, then 800si or 7 is for you. Else, you are better sticking with a 505.

At the end of the day, it is the photographer that create the picture. Pictures taken with my 505 looks the same as those taken with a 800si, 5 and a 7 ( using the same lens ).

Just my 2 cents.

My colleague went with a light weight dynax (can't remember the model) plus 28-200 tamron attached with a polarizer. He returned with stunning pictures, definitely pleasure viewing :).

That's a problem for digicam here.. a SLR with fresh batt plus a spare set probably last the whole trip.

That's one of my complaint too! But I can live with it.. Dynax 5 does a good job here.. so silent.

Agreed. Technically, as long as the settings required are within 505 limits, they can produce same result (with same lens).

However, the main drawback of 505 is lack of DOF preview feature IMO. I always have to do guess work (agar agar) on the sharpness and depth. (alternatively, can carry a calculator or palmtop to calculate lor  )

I believe the same results can be achieved with a prosumer digicam like 7hi or A1, assuming that storage requirements and power are taken care of.

For batteries the solution will probably be a couple of set of AA rechargable plus
a few set of AA lithium, and seriously plan to cutting down on power consumption.

5 days of trekking aren't going to be a serious threat. 15 days is a different story........

guess what? a fren call up wanting to buy my 505si! so now is good reason to buy d5, you think?
problem is how much to sell... u know fren fren... but the d 5 seems so expensive lately. CP quote me $699 (haven't bargain yet). well although the price comes with 28-80 (100?) and 75-300, both of which i have no intention to keep.

option 1 : sell old body and new lens
option 2 : sell old body and old lens

don't think fren is willing to pay more than $350

what do you think. sorry trouble you guys again. (just checked the D7.. $1400!) unless i print money.

Buy from TCW lah, they have the 2nd hand body there.you can go for 24-85 lens 2nd hand. lens.

woosy,

What is the lens you're having now?

i've got 24-105 (D) lens and planning to buy the 50mm (1.7) soon. i still keep the 28-80(kit lens) and has a real lousy tamron 70-210 (which i don't use anymore).

Hiee....

Just stick to the 5 for nowl.....and spend on a couple of good lens.

rgds,
sulhan
