Undecided between 50mm 1.8g and 35mm 1.8g

I own a d90. And im finally decided to get myself a prime lens. But im torn between 50mm 1.8g and 35mm 1.8g. And some even say i should get a 50mm 1.8D instead because im using a d90.

Im practically clueless and i dont wanna get the wrong thing. I did try to read up on the different lenses but all seems good and really not helping in the decision making.

Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Agreed.. Saw that on youtube. Anyways im on my way to funan to get the 35mm 1.8. Omg i cant wait lol.

Enjoy your lens. I shoot with the 35mm f1.8G almost exclusively. It's a fantastic sharp lens with super creamy bokeh.

If you shoot portraits a lot you will also want to get the 50mm (it's about $150+ new) or the 85mm f1.8G ($800-$1k) if you got the spare cash. Awesome bokeh without having to get so close to your subject.

Some sample here, taken on 35mm DX with D7000.
But only the image size a bit small & hope u can see clearly.

Can get the 50mm first. BnS usually have in the $100+ price range. Both lenses also have very nice bokeh balls.

That's the AF 50mm f/1.8D right? Unfortunately, I don't think highly of the image quality it produces. Going for the AF-S 50mm f/1.8G is so much better.

I don't think the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8G is that expensive. Should be less than S$700. Or am I mistaken?

S$ 326 bought 3 months back from slrr@funan

I had a similar conundrum. In the end I bought BOTH but at second hand prices. $110 for the 50 1.8D and $280 for the 35. So in all I spent about $390 and both are still in excellent condition 8 months later.

BTW I tend to use more of the 50mm. No particular reason other than personal preference. I keep the 35 around still as it's handy to have.

Especially on HDB indoor shoots.

Anywhere the 85mm is just depend you need more Tele feels or portrait shots.

Just simple way go to JB Angsana, there have fews shop is selling under $600.

I think it's quite nice actually, but yes for outdoor shots. It lets you get bokeh without getting too close to your subject, which in turn lets you flatten the background. The 35mm will give you bokeh in a portrait but the background might look "too deep".
