If you are not on budget, go for Canon 10-22mm, it's a hidden L lens.

If you are on tight budget, go for Tamron 11-18mm.

That's rite

In terms of quality, will 30D with 10-22 come close to 5D with 17-40?

5D still has better pic quality I think. Not noticeable for 4 or 5R prints tho.

The 5D+17-40L combo is gonna cost a bomb! 30D with 10-22 will be a cheaper and better alternative if you are amateur. Just my 2 cts. :)

The price for 5D alone is already more than the 30D WITH 10-22 :(

there are quite a few comparisons online like this: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/digital-wide-zooms/comparison.htm and this: http://www.nikonians.org/html/resources/nikon_articles/nikkor/af/wide_angles_shootout/index.html

both suggest that the tamron is the last amongst the competition and that the tokina is 1 of the best non-oem lenses.

take ur time and read them through.

Ken Rockwell, a Nikon user, actually mentioned:

"I'd buy the Canon 10 - 22 mm lens in an instant if I had a Canon digital camera. The Canon 10 - 22 mm is better than any of these four lenses, including the Nikon.

What makes the Canon so superior is its vanishing low distortion. What little distortion the Canon has is completely fixable in PhotoShop CS2. The Canon also has a wider zoom ratio than any of the Nikon, Tamron, Sigma or Tokina lenses.

If you own Canon and want the best just get the Canon lens. it's not much more expensive than the Tamron, Tokina or Sigma lenses and costs less than the Nikon. "

Yes, but IMHO, the Tokina 12-24mm is priced too close to the Canon 10-22mm.. UNless compared to the Nikon 12-24mm, then the Tokina makes much better $en$e..

I'd definitely buy the 10-22 if i buy a 20D or 30D.

Thanks for all the advices. After serious consideration. I'll go for the 5D full frame and slowly collect my L lenses.

I must say people here are very helpful. Thanks.
