Since we assume cost is not a problem, then:
If 35mm, then 35mm Summilux ASPH FLE (July 2010 just released).
If 50mm, then 50mm Summilux ASPH.
Both hard to find. Both are the modern, sharpest and most expensive lenses in their class, setting the benchmark by which are lenses are compared. Both got high resale value on secondary market, since people who are sick of being on waiting queue will buy.
Since you are on M9, whether you choose 35mm or 50mm depend on your style of photo. Do you like to be 2 steps closer forwards, or 2 steps further backwards?
Other more "esoteric" lenses depend on taste. I do not recommend those to newbie because you need to have used a number of lenses before you acquire a taste for more esoteric lenses.

I give you another recommendation based on the following assumptions:-
1. You want a Leica (after all, why spend so much on an M9 and use another brand lens?);
2. You do not need a killer lens, just a very good one.
3. You got reasonable amount to spend on Leica lens.
My recommendation is:
If 35mm, get a 35mm Summicron (got many versions)
If 50mm, get a 50mm Summicron (got a few versions) or 50mm Summilux pre-asph
Both Summicrons will last you a very long time and allow you to practice RFing. F2.0 cron is easier to focus than F1.4. By the time you got GAS attack to buy something else, you can sell the cron on secondary market.
If you just started Rfing, no need to chiong for the best wan.
P.S. Sorry i just realise some of the lens I recommend above are not in CURRENT production. eh why must be in current production harh? you wanna buy brand new ar

Please dun say that.I take all advice fr fellow members be in positive or negative seriously.Im not gunning for the best or most expensive lens.Just wanna know what would fellow members choose 1 out of so many leica lens.I think i start to fell in love with Leica already.I think even i duno how to use and by looking at the gears is enough to make me a very happy man.Just like when i 1st fell in love for watches 10 yrs back.

Imho it is not easy to stick with one lens coz leica is very poisonous.
simply great for street shooting... modern lens 'look' with a slight classical touch.

My dream is Summilux 21mm for street photography :thumbsup:
If I can only have 1 lens, it must be the 35 1.4 fle.
As I shoot low light very often. its also smaller than the older ASPH.
As many have said leica is poisonous so 1 lens 1camera is never enough =)
because there is so many choice for every focal length!
Just for 35mm we have:
CV35f1.2 , 35pre-asph, 35 cron, 35 cron apsh. 35 summarit f2.5, 35 fle.and the 35 zeiss f2/2.8...
Which camera system has so many choice for primes?!
CV 35f1.2 : Its drawing/rendering is strange/unique not leica but just unique. flaw resistant
35 pre asph gives a really nice classical "glow" the lens I will bring to a smoky club to bring out the glow.
35 cron is sharp but not too sharp that allows a continuity across the planes in a picture. My goto lens for scale focusing work.
35 cron asph is brilliantly sharp but with a bit of pincushioning
35f2.5 inbetween classical and asph a very underrated lens.
35 FLE is the modern look just very sharp.
Zeiss 35 2.8 one of the more corrected lens where your straight lines are straight!
I can imagin myself carrying 3 35mms =)

If $$ is not an issue, buy --> try --> analyze --> not your taste --> sell and repeat from first step.
My perfect lens may not be what you like, most importantly what is your requirement? Do you shoot architecture? Portrait? Street? Journalism? Interior? Or what ever field you're interested, always go back to basic.
