Wanted to start this thread with a high note, instead half fed up already because I cannot do autofocus with the live view in my 3 month old 1000D. Had been seeking help in another thread and many thanks to those who tried to help. So with such sadness, I start my photo a day thread entitled My Photographic Journey... As usual critique and comments most welcome.

#1 This photo was taken in Venetian Macau. It depicts a gondola tied to the side of a canal, waiting to serve whoever is interesting in sitting on it. This photo was taken with Olympus C770UZ

Solved my LV problem. My own stupidity actually. Lesson learned: Don't panic and RTFM thoroughly!! :embrass::embrass: Thanks to all those kind souls who had replied till the wee hours.

With this happy note, I present my next photo.

#2 This photo was taken at the Marina Barrage. Not sure what to title to give so will just give it a generic name... No PP done.

Wanted to photo a group of herons but end up playing hide and seek with them instead :bsmilie:. Now for sure I can say that 250mm is not enough to capture bird photos. Wondering if a teleconverter will do the trick or I really need a 400mm lens? Maybe teleconverter more useful for me as I can also use it for macro.....

This photo is a compromise, although not a heron but at least my effort not wasted. Photo was cropped, sharpened and color enhanced.

Learning image editing. Currently using the free PhotoScape. Found the program easy to use. Still not sure if it is adequate for more advance use. Got a kick from converting (by now too familiar) Singapore skyline as viewed from (where else but) Marina Barrage. This was using a simple pencil pictorialisation. The original, stitched from 3 photo then cropped, is posted below.

Rained today. Suddenly struck by inspiration and tried taking raindrops. Unfortunately had used too narrow a depth of field and unable to show raindrops falling from sky :(; only captured raindrops from the leaves. Will try again the next rainy day....

Was walking in Botanical Gardens when come across this man doing his own version of exercise. Suddenly inspiration struck and thought of the sentiments of the current economic crises. So the next photo is titled "Signs of the times?" Not sure if aptly depicted by the photo.

One of the most difficult aspect of photography (apart from composition) is to put a title to the photo. This photo is part of Sultan Mosque. The spire is overshadowed by the dome behind. The spire is the main subject and yet it seemed overshadowed by the larger but featureless dome. I titled it "Distinct yet overshadowed".

Tried my hands on post processing, using free PaintNet. Attempted to do layering but failed.:dunno: Last resort cheated by using cut and paste :bsmilie:. I called the next photo "Reflections", aptly named for the reflection of the cat, and the 'misdeed' I did

Candid can be very interesting. However I find it very difficult to get a decent composition because usually it is very fleeting. This is made worse by my fumbling fingers and less than perfect eyesight. Another difficulty is the fear of offending people; hence I usually try to take from indirect angles like the one below.

This photo was cropped but unfortunately was unable to removed the legs of the 2 birds in the background. Tried using layers but alas unsuccessful. Still has a long way to go with PP.
