[TTL] Sunrise @ Promontory Marina - 15th Sep 2012 Sharing Thread

It was a first outing that I've joined.
Many thanks to Albert for organising the outing. Will definitely keep a look out to join future outings again.

Here's a pic made during the beautiful sunrise..

hope to get some comments & critiques from fellow photographers! thanks everyone!

Excellent photograph. Where exact is this taken from? I am an occasional traveller to Singapore and might not be the most familiar with spots, so if you could point out where and how I have to get to this spot, would be appreciated :)

 I'm quite sure daredevil123's name was in black yesterday...
oops sorry boss OT don't ban me hor ;p

eh noob question... regarding getting the 'starburst' effect from the sun, what are the factors? Closing down the aperture / inherent lens quality / reducing the level of highlights in post? TIA!

Great photo konstrain. If I am to nitpick, I would say there is some keystone distortion in your photo. keystone distortion happens when you tilt your camera angle upwards or downwards while using a wide angle lens. This will cause objects to lean towards the center (when lens pointing upwards), or lean away from the center (when lens pointing downwards). When shooting views with buildings, keystone distortion can be undesirable if not intentional. If your picture it is quite apparent as seen from the buildings on the left of the frame.

There are a few ways around this. One is to shoot totally level and crop away the unwanted section of the water below. Another method is to shoot wider, and fix the distortion in post processing later.

;)

Actually you can get starburst from all strong points of light. All you need to do is to close down the aperture.

Thank you for the great tips!
I was using 10-22 at its widest. Yup I had my camera pointed upwards. Wanted to capture more of the clouds.

In pp, I tried to correct the vertical distortions. But that would cause some clouds to be cropped off unintentionally. The MBS building seemed to shrink in height after the correction. I shall experiment further when I'm there again. Hehe

My late homework....

yup you're right after correction especially if more extensive you may need to 'pull' the buildings longer too hee... though at this extent because of interpolation from the software the top part of the image will also look soft. In the end will need some sacrifice, unless you invest in a tilt-shift lens hehe ;p

nice shots from everyone, hope to join you guys next time.

wow daredevil123 is now a moderator, well deserved and congrats!

Hi Charif, I used a 30s exposure at f/13, ISO 100 for that shot, with a 0.9 soft grad for the sky. As the bay was choppy that morning, I flipped the top half of the image to create a faux reflection. Hope this helps. ;)

I forgot to bring filters that day, so ended up with a silhouette photo here.
D700 + 16-35mm at 19mm f20 1/50s 6 brackets.
