Tripod for D700 + AFS 24-70

If anyone is interested in GT1541T (and rich enough) but wants something tougher, there is the Ocean Traveller (stainless and waterproof version of GT1541T). It feels rock solid (and rock heavy) in hand but maybe it is new, deployment of the legs is not really smooth.

GT1541T folds shorter as the legs can be flipped over and kept. However, heard from some other users that GT1541T can be quite flimsy compared to GT1541. Therefore, I went for the non T version. Markins Q3T is designed to be used with GT1541T in the sense that when the tripod legs are folded over the ballhead, the ballhead rests nicely with the legs.

CP tends to charge a slight premium for some of the products. You can try J316 as well.

I dun mind if the tripod can lasts 20 yrs and it comes with a ball head. It's not too expensive if u can get the shots you always wanted but you didn't want to risk your normal Gitzo CF tripod.

Went over to CP today and was very tempted to get GH1780QR and GT1541. Should I get the Gitzo ballhead or Markins?
I quite like Gitzo ballhead as it is quite light.

What about your 70-200? Never going to put that on a tripod? I can't recommed a 1 series Gitzo. I would say you need to look at the 2 series, and 3 if you're going to mount the 70-200. The best ball head would be RRS the biggest version. I would recommend you save up and go read bythom.com's Tripod 101 article.

1) Questions like this should be asked in the "Others" subforum. A tripod that can support a D700 will also support a 5DII, E3, A900, etc.
