Travelling lenses advise

Just 20mm + 24-70 will do.

This will be a good combo. From the lenses mentioned, 20mm is the widest among all and I wont understand how a person can go for holiday w/o a wide angle lens to shoot landscape.

For me, the 20mm lens will be the first lens to go into the camera bag. :thumbsup:

I agree with you that the best travel lens may not necessarily be the best lens in terms of IQ. I urge the rest to also try out the Nikkor 16-85mm as a travel lens before committing on a travel lens. Although the reach is much lesser, IQ is superb. :thumbsup:

I second this. One size fits all solution. IMHO, 18-200mm is still not wide enough for travel.
IQ is also very good:thumbsup:

Edit: on the tele side, why not bring 55-200VR? Lightweight and VR is necessary at 200mm handheld.

Hi Guys,

Will be going over to Europe for holiday and would like to seek your opinion if the following lenses will be good enough and not too troublesome. Will be using D700 and currently I have the 50mm 1.4D & 70 -200mm f2.8 VR. Am thinking if I should buy the 20mm or 24 - 70mm to cover the wider angle.

Cons for 24 -70 mm is that it is heavy and expensive but it gives the flexibility over the range. To keep the weight low do you think I should leave out the 70 - 200mm?

Combi 1:
1) 20mm f2.8
2) 50mm f1.4
3) 70 - 200mm f2.8

or
Combi 2:
1) 24 - 70 mm f2.8
2) 50mm f1.4

Suggest me others if appropriate.

If u had a DX, wld be good to bring just the body n the 18-200mm.

The 55-200mm VR is a very compact and light lens. Its IQ is good too. It is an excellent lens to bring for travelling too.

I intend to supplement with a 11-16mm from Tokina for my WA needs. :bsmilie:
