buy buy buy.....
hehheheee...

The price is in the thereabouts of S$1350-$1400 when I check with the local distributor about 3 weeks ago.

was quoted $1499 at the recent commex. or was it comdex?

what's the difference between Magicstor 2.2GB CF and this transend 2GB CF? How come the price so much difference? $350 and $1,400???
:-(

If the Transcend 45x is around $1.5k, I'll rather get the Lexar 40x, which cost about 2/3 the price, and comes with the Lexar Rescue Software. Just my thoughts...

be patient, my dear friend, market forces will drive its price down...

The MagicStor is a Microdrive, the Transcend is a CompactFlash.

One uses harddisk-like technology, the other uses memory cells/chip to store data.

when you mean 2/3 the price, are you referring to a Lexar 40X 2GB Vs a Transcend 45X 2GB???

Yes, that's correct, I am comparing Lexar 40x 2GB and Transcend 45x 2GB (both CF1).

Currently there's no agent for the Lexar CF cards, so gotta shipped from US, the price is approximately S$1k++, so about 2/3 the price of the Transcend.

Magicstor use magnetics to store data, Transcend use electronics to store data. If you learn Physics, you can tell which one is a better medium, and why one is so much cheaper than the other one.

Did I confuse you more? Some motivation for you to study hard. :D

Thanks uncle for yr educational lecture. No wonder there are so many bad reviews on this magnetics stuff here!

I don't think that magnetic technology is necessarily worse than solid state technology, but the microdrive has some disadvantages.

It's a spinning diskdrive inside a microdrive, and like all HDD, cannot withstand severe jolts.
Due to the fact that the disk must be kept spinning at I-dont-know how many RPM, there is a higher power-consumption for microdrive.

I don't know how compact flash records data, but I think there is mostly silicon inside, which is somehow made non-volatile, so you don't need power to remember your 1's and 0's. But at any rate, it has advantages over the microdrive of lower power consumption and more hardy. That's the reason for the difference's in the price. I suppose compact flash should require more technology to manufacture. Besides the HDD industry is well-established and to build a small drive, they will be using already available technology.
