Make sure you don't take that train then. I think its mentioned in the LP guide. Unless, of course, you want to visit Kazakhstan and have settled your visa stuff. In which case, there is also train from Novosibirsk to Almaty.

Yes, it's convertible and if you get the overnight trains, you'll get the "bedlinen" too. Dunno about the train to Almaty though. You can see some pics of platzkart "3rd-class" in my random ramblings blog post :)

My bad. My eyes are really failing me. Omsk it is. I see from wikitravel that there is a stop inside Kazakhstan - Petrolpavl, which is not mentioned in Seat61.

BTW, the train can lay down flat and sleep one or not? seems like only got upright chairs.
