Was there to get myself a Tokina 19-35mm lens(get free lenspen + mini tripod with ballhead). Also checked out the price of the wide-angle converter for the A1.......its really expensive!!!!!!! $320++

I am eyeing at that lense as well for long long long time already... my dream lense... i'll be very very very satisfied if i can own that, now 50% satisfactory with owning Minolta 100mm Macro...

save...save...save...

Hiee....

I owned the 100mm f2.8 2nd model...Loved it....and sold it away to one of the CS members......as i realized thet i rarely used it.......

One think i dont quite like it is the weight....when the lens is focussing...(100m macro) you can feel the bulk of lens elemnt inside....moving on your palms forward and backwards....great optics....

for me, i love it - 100mm Macro lense. i think it's a classic and a keeper lense  . in fact, i love its weight, the feel is there... well, different requirement for different ppl. it's also a great portrait lense ;p used it for many black n white portrait :D

How much did u sell it?

I owned the 100mm Macro (D) too..

I love it! The sharpest is unbeatable..

The only complaint is the focusing speed, slightly slower than normal lens.

Yup den...

i find the focussing a little long winded....as its a macro lens.....the amount of focusing per turn ratio would be more for better accuracy.....

BTW....i am planning to get the 100mm (D) version maybe in 2005......plan onilah!!!!

Focusing speed, not an issue for me so far as i only use manual focusing, would rather utilise ;p my own eyes...
100% manual focus when 100mm Macro is on my palm
90% manual focus when other lenses are on my palm

17-30 mm ..... i'll have u one day... i will...

Hi Sulhan,

Don't plan onli lah.. go for it :). The AF is not terribly slow mah.. switch to "limit", and it should be fine.

The other G lens on my wishlist is  85mm F1.4
.. cost about $1200.

No monie liao

Yap! My trusty 7 can focus much better and faster than me.. :bsmilie:

Edit: Oh.. unless the lighting condition is really bad, then need the fall back plan lor.. but as far as possible, my brain and 7 work together better (bypass the eyes... kekeke)

If I have a budget of $300, which is a recommended lens to go for (new or 2nd hand)?

What is your area of interest?

Get a new Tokina 28-70 Pro Sv f/2.8 constant for $360 .... pay another $60 more for an outstanding lens.

Shipping cost is quite expensive as they only ship with UPS.

For $300, get the 24-105 used or 24-85 used.

For those who want to try the 17-35 G, let me know! I'll bring it down for the next gathering. Cost me one arm, one leg and God knows what else.... :D

I used this lens for my colleague's church wedding. I was shooting backup and the main (hired photographer) was using a S2 Pro. My colleague had his tea ceremony in a very small room inside the church and due to the cropping factor, he could not cover the whole room.

I could, and it felt GOOD.

Problem is, it's really very diff to find good 2nd hand Minolta lenses in S'pore
