a clean look for u

dancelikethewind.jpg

low contrast is done on purpose

Thank you. This is more pleasing to my eyes.

like what garou12 had mentioned, the dirty wall adds a sense of realism. but upon seeing many other's dance photography, the photos are always very clean and nice. i had wanted to do another clean variation, cleaning up the dirty wall, but i'm just plain lazy. haha...

2-3 500w bowens. actually my light set up isn't enuff to freeze the motion too well, especially those dance moves with vigorous tossing. either the end of the cloth have slight motion blur or the end of the limps are blurred. trash those. :(

What I found interesting was you did one step further was to incorporate the shadows against the wall which I found to be surreal rather than a plain black wall.

Yes I know your Bowens isn't enough to freeze motion pin sharp but at least there is a great effort in trying it.

Very very good shots you have there. Don't think I can achieve that in my standard. Still learning. :)

Nicer than mine :embrass:.

Good shots. like the 2nd one or was it the 3rd one.......

bowens 500w definitely cant freeze motion pin sharp.not even the 1000watter.
been there, done that.

i can definitely start a thread on freezing motion, but there will be endless flames and i dont see the point.

i've clocked more than 10000 shutter counts on my d200 for dance photography so i dare say i've experienced quite a fair bit.

no doubt there are lights other than profoto and broncolor that can freeze motion but i reckon only the 2 mentioned can do it pin sharp.
some pics appears to be sharp but when you pixel peep it....it really aint.

like you,i've trashed thousands of pics because of limps blurring.

thanks for sharing your pics.:)

you are definitely much more experience than me.

just to share with you what i know, though i probably shoot 1/100 lesser than you, maximum action stopping lighting is obtained by using a very short flash duration. this technique i'm sure you have already know. but the best strategy for action stopping is to use the intensity controls to shorten the flash duration and add multiple lights to build up the intensity to desired levels. i read this from a book. hence to say, its not about whether a bowens 500w or 1000w can do the job or not.

thanks all for your kind comments~

virgo, i'm still learning as well. this theme is purely experimental. i have alot to thank my dancer friend for being so patient with me and to repeatedly jump and toss. it was really physical draining for her. poor thing. anyway, i'm sure you can also achieve. never try never know.

:)

i happen to like #2, because the cloth/shawl's shape draws the eyes in from the sides to the dancer

#2 could have been done better. sigh ... but i'm glad u like it

please dont say that.:embrass:
i hope u are not like the rest who's just plain sarcastic ya.:embrass:

i am definitely not more experienced than you.
i just tend to be trigger happy all the time.

i know...short flash duration, and flash build up.
but sad to say, even i had 4 bowens before, and all at minimum power compensated with high iso, it couldnt freeze a fast jump PIN sharp.
i definitely learnt alot from photogs who guided me from overseas.

Wonderful series! Love it very much, very well thought..:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Love the first and 2nd..I like it mainly for the frame and capture (shadow, contrasty red), my only nitpick is if you only had a cleaner background wall.

very nice series!

the dirty walls are not a concern to me..

im really far far away from this kinda standard..
