Hi everyone. Let me introduce myself (please skip if you are not interested ... hee). My name is Darren Yap. Born in 1975. Got myself a dslr on December 31, 2007. I love taking photos. I get my inspirations from the internet mostly. This is a great forum and I have learnt a lot from it. I can only take photos on weekends and holidays. I will try my best to post a photo a day taken throughout 2009. All feedbacks, good and bad, are most welcome. So I hope you will take this little journey with me and maybe we can all learn something from each other.

Hey ... thanks for reading ... hehe ... so let's BEGIN!!!

Sunset
Lower Peirce Reservoir, Singapore
22 March 2009

I swore never to take this photo because it had been taken to death. But I couldn't help myself. This is the first time I'm taking the sunset at Lower Peirce Reservoir. The colours were really warm and I did not have to adjust much. You can tell that this is made up of multiple exposures, resulting in the abnormal shadow. I know it's not the right method because the water was not still enough. But I actually like the strange outcome.

So, what do you think? What would you change? Or is it totally wrong? Is the composition ok? Is it too lifeless without a human subject? Anything really ... I just want to know your opinion *peace*

This photo is overexposed ... and I like how it turned out (you'll probably see a lot of blown out stuff form me ... hehe). I took a couple of shots, some with proper exposure, but decided to keep this one. I deliberately 'stripped' the colours. hmmmmm ... I just realised that the photo looks a little bit tilted. I seem to have this problem. I fix it in nx. It looks ok there. Only to find out later that it is still not 100% levelled. Any tips on getting this right? Maybe I just need more practise.

Oh. I noticed this clause in flickr:
"...Flickr Community Guidelines specify that if you post a Flickr photo on an external website, the photo must link back to its photo page..."
Does that mean I have to provide a link to flickr? What's the best way to post photos here from flickr?

Thanks for viewing and have a great Tuesday *peace*

you can opt to include a url link to the flickr photo page that is relevant using tags like so (click on quote to see what tags i used). i have never done so though. :bsmilie:

This is a good shot! You can try different exposure using the very same picture. Therefore you won't have to worry about alignments. ;)

And welcome to apad!

Oh ya ... forgot about that. But I guess that would either lead to some highlights or loss of details in the shadows? I should try it someday. Thanks for the tip

A 'semalu' flower ... I don't know the English name. I ended up using a shallow DOF, thus the OOF result. I did try smaller apertures but didn't like how the background turned out. So I decided to stick with this and gave it a little orton effect which I found fitting. Happy Wednesday all!

WAIT! STOP! Don't go away. There's a reason why I'm posting this. When you go out taking photos in a group, you cannot avoid a group photo right? So I'd like to learn better techniques ... how to take more interesting group shots ... photos that will highlight both the event/location/mood/purpose and the members ... I find it very challenging

An Afternoon At The Beach
Tanjong Beach, Sentosa
4 April 2009

Finally got a chance to use my camera over the weekend. Went to the beach to take photos of my friend. She's getting married soon. So I offered to take casual shots of them with their dogs. This is my first time doing anything like this. Had a few ideas in my head but didn't really know how to execute them ... haha. It was fun and a good learning experience. Do visit the album and give me your honest feedback *peace*
